I shouldn't have included the ps4 in that reply because I don't own one. I can only speak to the xbox and PS3, I tried several "truck stop" inverters to include a 3000 watt cobra, none, not a single one would power up the PS3. I ended up stopping at a camper dealer outside of Talladega, bought a pure sine inverter, never had a problem again. This was 6 or 7 years ago, maybe something has changed within the "cheaper" inverters but I highly doubt it.

There used to be a guy that would do a segment on electronics on one of the morning shows on the road dog channel. (6 or 7 years ago) I ended up calling in to him and asking about this. I couldn't figure out why everything else would run off of the 3000 watt cobra but not the PS3. The way he explained it, the PS3 requires "cleaner" power, much like a household plug to operate.
TexTrucker Thanks this. -
One thing I do know is if you were using a ps3 back when they came out it probably wasn't your inverter. The original ps3 (known as the fatties) were immense power hogs. They had a huge 380w psu and under a load would draw upwards of 200+ watts not to mention the original ps3s almost exclusively needed plug in house power they hated inverters. When don't switched to their low power psus the ps3 became more flexible. I know about the gaming systems but not hooking them up to a truck so I'm glad everyone here was so helpful.
Turns out I have 4 12v outlets in my sleeper but only 1 has a 20amp fuse shop gonna have to plug everything into that one lol. The others are your basic 12v 10a yeah 14x10= 140 watts the ps4 alone would blow that fuse. I think im doing the math right? Lol your vehicles battery voltage times the fuse amps = total watts before fail -
JCase82 Thanks this.

Yeah My 400 watt cobra did the trick. I'm not going to say I went ahead and ran the cables directly to the battery because my company doesn't allow that but I did run into the issue you mentioned. The ps4 powered up and ran no problems. I could watch dvds/blu rays and have no issues but when the ps4 hit load (like loading textures/data etc) it obviously draws power on its higher end (which for the ps4 goes up to 140 watts) so the 12v outlet tended to not deliver the necessary power. But I got it all sorted. Thanks bro

2014 Cascadia. Engine idling at 14-14.5v. 140w cig inverter would not turn a ps4 on. 300w starts and runs ps4 and a 24in tv usually, but ps4 would turn off sometimes. Moved tv to a dif outlet with the 140w inv. All runs well.

I thing the plugs are all tied in to the same fuse.
My last truck, i used a heater for water, burritos. Those plugs didn't last long. Wiring got fixed twice but i have no idea what the problem was. By the time the truck went by by. The plugs didn't work enough to even charge my phones. Had to use the invertor with a 120v plug. the chargers would light up. But that was the extent of the amperage. And i'm not talking just one socket either. It was ALL of them. How the invertor was able to charge my laptop, run my printer and my phones i have no idea. But none of the sockets would charge my phones using 12 volt usb plugs, let alone heat up water anymore.
Could it be a corroded connection. I don't know.
I miss having hot water and a oven. But won't try with the new truck. I need power more then i need hot foot. -
You can run the very slim PS3 with the sliding tray on top of it. All the other ones I've tried don't get enough juice

I am guessing the power drives all the truck stops sell are modified sine. I know my ps3 worked on the little 300w power drive I picked up from loves (wouldn't work on a 1500w cobra from Wal-Mart) ps4 on the other hand would start and as soon as you start a game, the extra draw would shut it down. Don't want to damage the system and have heard both sides of do or don't use a ups but would the larger power drives work? I had a buddy give me a 1500w power drive. Only wires I had to test it were the battery clamps that came with the 300w model. Got no lights just a beep, figured the wires were not a big enough gauge. But I still have my #2 awg weld wire from the cobra at the house. That should be sufficient I imagine. Any suggestions on to use or not use a ups? What about plugging in a real good surge protector to the inverter prior to plugging your devices. I was always told the higher the joules on those the better in case you got a bad spike

Ps3 slim is the way to go. Ps4 will pop fuses eventually if using cig lighters.
