Another good choice for a family man is CTL Transportation. This company is hazmat/tankers and they will sponsor you in private CDL school. The website says they "assist" with lodging and meals during CDL school.
The reason I say good choice for a family man is hazmat/tankers can lead to some big paychecks after gaining some experience.

 

Go drive grain or silage trucks.

 

I'm guessing you're from the deep south, so depending on your area hit up all the ltl carriers. Con-way trains drivers too, they have ltl and otr divisions.

Old dominion, estes, saia, southeastern freight, r+l to name a few

 

What you do is wait until you're ready to put 110% commitment into this profession.I was over the road and came off it because my dad needed help caring for my mom.There are many companies that do care about drivers and their home life but there is more that do not.You as a new driver some day will have to pay your dues so to speak and theres not many understanding starter companies about you needing to take care of your family.They're going to want you to make a choice deliver loads or take care of your family.
