So I've worked the the oil patch since finishing CDL school 2+ years ago. I've only pulled bottles and currently pull crude, the money is good but has slowed considerable so I'm looking.
Talked to the yard manager here in SA and this is what I was told;
Pay .92$ All miles
FSC .14$
Fuel Discount about .40$ off
Insurance
Bobtail 9.46 week
Physical 30.00+/- week ( truck value 40,000)
Accidental 39.00 week ( I think that's what it's for)
Elog 17.00 week ( they use XATA I've used this was not impressed)
Escrow 50.00 week to 1000.00 after that you can keep the 50 or just let it grow.
He suggested a truck with a sleep of some kind. While it's home nights and weekends he did say sometimes you get a load from Laredo to Dallas which would not get you home same day, not often though.
He also said that the O/O are averaging in the low 3000+ range (3100 to 3400 a week)
I was running some numbers YTD my average ending July 31st is 6600.00 per month company driver.
Based on that info there sure doesn't seem like there is much room for profit if I have a truck payment. Even at that without a payment seems like there just isn't much wiggle room when there is a slow few weeks or a break down.
So are those rates low or is that the norm? I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out to feed a family on those numbers. Home time is very important and not really wanting to hit the road, besides that I don't have OTR experience and not willing to start from the bottom.

3k a week is pretty good for intermodal. How much are they paying for live loads and drops?
-
That being said the fsc is pretty low and so it the milage pay, even jb hunt pays their intermodal o/o more
-
I'm not sure I will add that to my list of questions, I made the classic "assume" there aren't live loads mistake.
-
I have some other companies to call about their intermodal pay.
-
Tomorrows run pays me 1.62 CPM + .32m FSC + $55 accessorial.... 300 miles roundtrip.....% is the way to go, I've yet to hear a decent, let alone good CPM deal.

- OP - are those numbers ($3k to 3.4k) based on gross revenue? If that's the case, you're probably looking around a net of $1,500 a week after deductions. However, if i'm mistaken and thats a BIG IF... then it sounds pretty good but highly unlikely. I know alot of guys that work around the Chicago area leased on to those kind of companies, let's just say..........they dont last too long.

Yes, those numbers are gross.
I figured @ 6mpg on 2850 miles (3021$ wk) after fuel and fixed cost as shown above it comes out to 1850$ week. -
MPG , gross and expected mileage too high for intermodal OP. Experienced players cash around 1500. Expect less for the first 90 plus days. Forget the manager, go find some drivers and ask them.
JMORERM Thanks this. -
What did you decide to do OP?
