Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well. Have you guys ever seen this type of patchy uneven thread wear on steer tires? Any ideas what could be causing this?

That cupping on the inside is tie rod related, have you had it laser lined?
Patchiness might be from heat

It is very odd, you can see an intermittent chunk of thread missing on the middle of the tire thread as well. I'm going to replace it and realign see what they find.

That's not really odd, that's what's called cupping or scalloped wear. Check wheel bearings, and everything in the suspension/steering. Cupping is typically caused by something worn or loose in the front-end. Common causes are wheel bearings, shocks, out of balance or out of round tires. In my experience, it is rarely on 1 problem, so make sure you check everything.

I swapped them not too long ago. Now I called my alignment guy to replace the worn tire and look at what is causing the issue, and he says I can put a Michelin XZA3 with my existing Michelin XZE2 on my steer axle. is that ok to do, says they are interchangeable?

The Michelin XZA3+ is a excellent steer tire, you shouldn't have any problems with it.

I had this kind of wear because of shock. it was yellow Monroe. it was not leaking, was not loose or tight . the g399a got ####ed up after 20k miles. ((( Replaced the shock and the tire. looks like wear is normal now. I have more then 100k now on that tire.

if it was me I'd get the front end checked out, replace the shocks if they are old and then replace both steers with the XZA3 and keep the good one you pulled off for a spare.
