I came off the road early 2014 after living in a truck for over 5 years, 24/7. It was just time to have a place to be able to relax and try and start a new life. Well, I worked for Buffalo Rock (Pepsi) for just over a year and realized that is a young man's game. You really bust you ###... you drive less than 100 miles a day and days are 10-14 hours. So I started with a company in Atlanta running regional working M-F and they told me I would get between 2500 and 2800 miles a week... I average 2050 a week.
So now I'm going to have to look for something else. I am super discouraged because when I came off the road I wanted to be home nights and weekends and I was at BR but I moved to Newnan, Ga when I did come off the road and that was just a bad decision. It's hard to find anything close to what I want. Every company within a 200 mile radius of Atlanta puts Newnan as where they need drivers and the jobs are no where near Newnan, so it's hard to find what's what. There are some jobs like I'd want they're no where near me that I can find and I don't want to commute over an hour twice a day in Atlanta traffic just to get to and from my job.
I suppose I am going to have to give up any idea of any kind of real home time and run regional and be home a few days a month... that sucks so bad, the idea makes me nauseous.
Anyone have any ideas? Companies NEAR Newnan that might be able to have me home a fair amount? I have a good driving record, I don't have HazMat but I may start studying for them. Thanks!

I'm not real familiar with your area as far as jobs go but are there any constuction companies? I think your stuck thinking about what you know how to do, not what's really out there. It's hard to discover the other truck driving jobs but if you've got experience ask around, worst that can happen is the tell you no.

What I did was took the first local job I could get and it was the worst job I've ever had, and I got a good cb. Then I started to get to know the guys in the area, and got some leads and some #### good references. In this job it is about how you handle your truck and knowing who's looking for a driver that has rep.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Check into the farmers market there. General produce pays pretty good. Worth checking out and seeing what the pay is. Gotta a friend who lives in Atlanta , drives day cab for Martin. Home every day and does pretty good. Can't remember the road now, but it's the long road that goes from Stockbridge to Atlanta and beyond , goes thru Rex and Conley. Anyways in Conley there are several trucking companies there. One is a day cab gig. Not a lot in Newnan. Stockbridge or Jonesboro maybe and try to get on with sunbelt or type like that company.

You might check with Big G Express. They usually get drivers home on weekends.

I am home with Averitt every weekend with the TL route. The only time I haven't been home on the weekend was when I stayed out to get some extra miles by my choice.
