I bought a few of these QuickBinder Plus ratchet binders (by SCC, Clackamas, OR) at a local trailer dealer in Charlotte and they are junk. They get jammed up, even with lubrication, and when the threaded end comes out, it is pretty tough to get it back in. One binder I have not been able to get back together at all. It's a great idea of the folding handle, but these "made in Chine" products are just plain junk, in my opinion. Don't bother wasting your money.

    Here's their website link:

I found one of those poking out of a snowbank at a shipper. It works good for me. And you can't beat the price. I was thinking of getting a few more. The folding handle makes it nice for storage.

I have 8 of them thread ends are pinned so they can't fall out at least mine are. on mine you would have to put bar on them and crank on them wrong direcrion and maybe with enough strength you could spin them out Im no runt and don't think I can do it maybe if I jumped on the bar. Since you hate them I will take them off your hands for half price. And i will even take broken one. Only ones I have come undone are my durabilts binders.

I have a locker full of these in the 3/8-1/2 size and my experience with them is exactly the opposite of the OP.

As for "made in China", is there anything left as far as hard load securement (chain, binders etc) that hasn't come from China in the past 10 years?

Local ag store has a barrel with 20' long 5/16" G70 chain...Laclede ( http://www.lacledechain.com/ )...made in USA, and $46/ea with the hooks already on 'em.

I guess there are still some places in the USA bending Chinese steel and welding it into chain.

As for binders and such I don't know of or have seen anything cast/forged come from the US in many years.

Martin bought some chains and binders last year from a crane and rigging place that were made is the USA. I don't remember what brand they are though.
