Depending on the source of the biodiesel product, the energy costs to harvest can be just as great as using diesel fuel. There's good research into using alternative plants for biodiesel, but the costs just aren't where they should be yet. Once the cost of harvesting/producing is on par with current petroleum costs, I suspect we'll see a huge surge in the use of biodiesel fuels.

So you would rather just say #### it. And quit? We have a name for that where I come from.

Just like the person who refuses to go to work on payday. Because he doesn't have enough gas for the round trip. Guess what, he aint gonna have the money on Monday either. If he doesn't get off his whinny ### and go get his check....Then buy some more gas after he cashes his check.

Makes perfect sense to me :biggrin_2554:

Alternatives are on the way. And your assumption of the drilling not making a dent is true. But it will be a serious blow if we fail to at least use what we have, until those alternatives come online. And there are many good ones that I have seen over the past couple of years. But those too are being blocked by the eco-freaks. Even the enviro friendly ones are being blocked.

Oil output is measured in Barrels per day. aka the equivilent of 4,785,000,000 gallons per day. Which puts us using less than 1/12th of the global output in the form of gas. And we only have 330 million people. China has over 3 billion. Imagine what will happen when they come of age, they'll want/need about 90% of ALL global production.

We must start doing something or we'll wind up with nothing.

    Hey guys we are famous!

Page one on Google search for "S.2958 petition"

Here's our chance, do we pick apart an energy plan that IMHO is a golden opportunity and the best one to come our way, or do we get behind it?

The world is watching, maybe the truckers rally on Washington opened some eyes?

    um here are some facts

"The oil derived from oil shale does not directly substitute for crude oil in all applications. It contains higher concentrations of olefins, oxygen, and nitrogen than conventional crude oil, as well as higher viscosities. By comparison with West Texas Intermediate, the benchmark standard for crude oil in the futures contract market, shale oil sulfur content ranges up to 9.5% by weight, where West Texas Intermediate's sulfur content has a maximum of 0.42%."

    Also

The composition of tar sands is completly different than oil shale. Shale is rock, tar sands is a thicker object stuck to sand

Also, that there petition wants to reduce the lease fees, royalties and taxes to oil companies for all of this. Don't the oil companies make enough money? Record profits every quarter, and they want a handout? They won't spend on a dime on refinery upgrades or new ones for that matter. Let's not support their greed

Gee....there seems to be a Brazilian Company that can do it (Shale to Oil) for $45 a barrel, and have been doing it for YEARS. Where are the reports of ANY major oil spill in Alaska from DRILLING? EXXON Valdez (11M gallons) was from a TANKER, and the person responsible; Joseph Hazlewood was reportedly drunk at the time. You can HARDLY blame the oil companies. The spill itself was the largest in history and the equipment necessary to clean it up was not readily available....still hardly the fault of the Oil Companies. The "leaking pipeline" leaked somewhere between several thousand and 680k gallons and has almost been all cleaned up.
While drilling may pose dangers to the environment, transporting by tanker poses a FAR greater danger. Why don't the ENVIRONMENTAL whackos BMW about drilling oil in un-friendly countries?

Improve MPG? The only way is by building SMALLER cars built out of PLASTIC. I don't know about YOU, but I wouldn't want my family killed in a collision in a small car that they would have survived in a gas-guzzling big one.
    Alternative Energy cars??
    Like "electric" ones??
Guess what, THOSE cars take MORE ENERGY to produce than they save. They take ENERGY to "charge their batteries". Where does that energy come from?? OIL, because the WHACKOS won't allow the building of Nuclear Energy Power Plants. They also take OIL to make all the plastic parts.

Fuel-Cell technology?? Hydrogen Fuel Cells are by far the most ineffecient and costly technology proposed. It costs OVER $200k to build a car using that technology, and there just aren't that many "Hydrogen" stations online yet.
    Kinda a CATCH-22, huh?

The Oil Companies are making a WHOPPING 8 1/2% return on their investments. Most of that profit is realized by regular citizens who have a 401k or other retirement plan.
The Government (FED) on the other hand makes over 2X that amont, and they produce nothing.

Less than 35% of the land leased to Oil Companies can or will produce oil. If the leased land is unproductive, the oil companies don't get a refund.
Kinda like leasing farm land that is 65% solid rock.
Also, their hands are tied by the environmentalists and it takes YEARS of red-tape to upgrade refineries.
