They aren't getting killed, they just aren't around as much anymore.

An independent single truck operation has expenses. Fuel, maintenance, taxes, insurance, and the.list goes on and on. To cover all of his expenses amd make anbit of profit, he has to average $1.50-$2.00/mile for every mile.he puts on that truck. He doesn't have a vast fleet that can haul cheaper freight in some places and make up for it in others.

Larger carriers don't have that concern. They have mamy ways of covering their costs while making a profit. Be it brokering freight out to other carriers for a percentage to leasing equipment to hopeful new owner operator wannabes, large carriers can absorb lower paying frwight while still turnimg a profit much, much easier that the independent singlentruck operation.

 

Want to make a.difference and really get.people.to notice? Stop the fuel deliveries for a week. Seriously, for one full seven day week, stop all diesel and gasoline deliveries across the country. Everythimg will stop within three to four days. People will notice then! But I seriously doubt ypu will be happy with the end result...

 

I'd call that deflation.
