What is a reasonable amount of time to give trucking company of notice you are leaving?

When I left Schneider over a decade ago, I gave 1 weeks notice at the beginning of my week vacation. The truck was already clean and turned in. I CYA'd everything!!

No less than 10 minutes, no more than 1 day while you start orientation with your new company.

Who gives a notice in the trucking industry? I did once, 2 weeks, scheduled orientation with new company, old company brought me back to the terminal the next day and told me to clean out my truck!, after 5 years of loyal service with no issues, they just lost all their southeast freight to get me home for hometime, So I learned fast don't give a notice, had to sit almost 2 weeks without pay, I enjoyed the vacation though lol

That's true. One terminal manager told me they prefer 1 week notice but also said there's no proper protocol for giving notice.
Clean out the truck and leave the property is notice enough really.

    neffalaska Thanks this.

As a company driver... any job really...

I've always given the 'standard' 2 week notice. Never once was told to GTFO! and would be eligible for rehire anywhere.

Now I understand this is the exception not the rule.

RStewart, FLATBED and neffalaska Thank this.

If you play it smart you won't give them any notice until you get home and clean your trk out.Does'nt matter how good of a driver you are, companies do not appreciate a notice you'll be quitting. They'll route you to the nearest terminal call you in and make you sign a resignation paper and you're done right then and there.
