when I was doing OTR I was comparing my 2 week out paycheck with what I could make doing 40 hours at Tim Hortons at min wage.
$15 bucks per hour sure would be a nice increase for most.

Can't count off duty time in the bunk as "working" unfortunately.

yeah, but time on duty, at shipper, checking tires, pretrip inspection, replacing headlamps, fuses, fueling, off loading, border line up, traffic, forced detour (still got paid for book distance, not actual miles driven), weather.....if you are a driver, you know what I mean

Indeed, drivers may wish to check that they are actually making minimum wage and not less. Trucking is that special area of employment where minimum wage and overtime pay laws are routinely ignored.

Routinely ignored? I think the job is classified in a different manner than the jobs that require minimum wage and overtime. So to say it's being ignored is incorrect. Just different rules are being applied. Similar to the rules that apply to waitstaff get paid a much lower minimum wage per hour because they are actually working for tips not per hour.

Sorry, I just noticed this post is in the Canadian posts... My comment would apply in the U.S. And I am not familiar with Canadian rules/laws.

well otr trucking is federally regulated and our leading party in the current election is saying they'll mandate a min wage of $15 per hour- that's about double what I was bringing in for entire 2 weeks on the road, not even factoring in 1 1/2 times regular rate for OT over 44 hrs per week.
I am just wondering how many canadian drivers are aware of that or if they still want to vote for the guy that tfw up the backside

They are basically the same when it comes to what you said.... Not really any different.. Wait staff here get paid below minimum wage as well because they are working for tips...

What you need is a better job in this industry. Problem is that most drivers dont actually try to get better jobs, do some research and you might be surprised.
