I wouldn't have left with drives weighing 34900.

500 probably. That can be transfered to steers.

He was over gross so moving weight was kind of a moot point.

You definitely gotta watch the fuel. Around 8 lbs a gallon, if you have 2 150 gallon tanks that are full or close to it. Your looking at up to 2400 lbs extra weight. I always fuel up before I get loaded and scaled. I also haul stone. Our permits allow up 117k gross. This is a local run and I fuel up every other day but the first load of the day with fuel topped off is around 116500. As the day goes on by my last load I scale out in between 112k to 115k. The weight obviously goes down as fuel is used over 2 days and 14 to 16 loads

So if the scales are off the shipper is giving away free product every time they load a truck right?

I don't trust any scale that is used to make money like at a truck stop, I loaded up the other day with 56k on the production ticket, I know it was 56k worth of raw castings because they weigh them individually as they come out of sand. Then add that to the truck weight of 33k (that was weighed in the morning at this company with their scale and has been consistently correct) and the dunnage used (about 3k), I come in about 92.5k with my fat butt in the driver's seat. I have to scale at the nearest cat scale and the total for all 7 axles came out to being 89k - where 3.5k went to I have no clue. So I went to my drop, took off the castings which are weighed as they came off, I had the dunnage weighed to see what it was, even weighed myself and added it up, the numbers were right on but the cat scale is off. I kept one copy of the scale ticket and gave the other one to the customer who asked me why is there a difference, I said I don't know but assume that the cat scale is off by a lot. He called cat, I don't know what he said - I will see him Tuesday.

A few weeks ago I was going to fill up at the local truck stop and I pull into the fuel isle. I had someone knock on the door and ask if I would like to buy 100 gallons of fuel, he was overweight by 600 lbs and had to ditch the fuel, so I bought 100 gallons from him for $200. He was happy and so was I, but it was one of these things that never happens.

Check your 5th wheel bags . Scale at cat after loading but before chick coop. It is in a shippers interest to get most for their money. Never trust anything close to a full load.

I understand how you feel, but legally this situation is entirely your responsibility.

One thing I would recommend though is taking a copy of the CAT scale ticket to the shipper as some sort of proof that their scale is off.
