Why dose that sound suspicious? I spoke with the owner of the company, his son and 2 of his mechanics all independently and got a consistent answere from all of them. They have a fleet of 50 trucks or so. Truck came from a company he acquired in 2009 and the truck and driver did specialized work with it until 2011 when the driver retired and the specilized contract ended. Said they kept the truck around just in case but his fleet is all fairly new and looks well maintained. Truck condition and records match the story. They were upfront about the trans before I even looked at it. I have looked at and driven 20 sub $20k trucks and NONE of them drive out as good as this one. Every one was wore out!!!! This one is tight!. If I fell for a story I guess it's on me. I have spent more money than this to learn a life lesson. I have a nice 3/4 ton truck and a vette but, bought a 95 Grand cherokee 1 year ago for $1k and drive it every day. Guess I like to punish myself. Lol

It sounds like a nice truck. Any work ever done to the engine? It is a 14 year old truck, you have to expect that it is going to start nickel and diming you. If it hasn't been driven that much in the last 4 years I would think any rubber bushings, hoses and seals might start giving you trouble.

If you still live in Phx, go over to Desert Trailer on Buckeye Rd. Jeanie has some clean used trailers for sale out of their rental fleet.
I picked up this '06 Vanguard 53' in my avatar for $16,000 Best thing about their trailers is they've been in AZ since new-which meens no rust!!singlescrewshaker, James j, Ruthless and 2 others Thank this. -
No I moved to the Midwest 3 1/2 years ago. I have heard of the place your talking about though. They have any flatbed stuff there? I would go anywhere for the right deal on a trailer. Sounds and looks like a good deal you got on that van.singlescrewshaker and Road Killer Thank this. -
Sounds like a decent truck but 700,000 is the point where you do start dumping money into one. I pull a brand new trailer with a 13 year old truck. There's nothing crazy about it lots of people dislike newer trucks with unreliable expensive emissions experiments. You can get a decent spec'd dry van brand new for about $26-28K all in, they're really cheap imo.

I think you can buy new ones for a lot less than that though.

Least expensive new combo flat bed I can find is over $30. And the best all aluminum is $50. The least expensive used I can find is $15 and was all steel and questionable at best. I just don't get the used values. I meen you put 8 new tires and a brake job on a used and your at $25k and still have a rusted out dented up pos. As far as truck value to trailer value it just seems backwards to logic.
I read all the horror stories about the epa stuff. Thought how bad could it REALY be???????
Bought an 05 freight with an egr Detroit for the last place... 2 months in smoking like a pig cutting power. Take back to dealer and they said oh well that's the nature of egr.
Started with the new guy I work for 2014 kW 680 cummins. 200k miles
Wait for it
Week 2 of working for him complete dpf failure!!! Filter, dosser and wireing harness.
3 weeks later sister KW same thing. 1 week wait on parts for his.
Guess what??? Not covered under warranty.
I was thinking before this..... How bad could this epa stuff REALY be???? Asked my boss when I started about it and he said no not REALY a problem. After my truck repair he remembered having 2 dpf failures before that on that truck. This is a truck with 200k miles folks!!!!!
I thought before this happened it was just a bunch of old truckers telling stories and shooting the breeze on here. HA!!!!!! Last fleet I was around was 2002. Been responsible for repairs on some small fleets since 1994 until 2002. Trucks just ran every day.
At that point it was either a NEW glider or pre epa for me... Got to thinking about data cables running the power windows and the boost guage and that answered the question for me. OLD it is.Last edited: Aug 30, 2015
