Yep. I get overtime after 60 hours. Had to fight for it, but got it.

boredom-I love cycling and it was the coolest job I ever had- but in the city, it's just short runs mostly in the core- Id even take a nice day off to go for a long roll out somewhere. Logged all my rides, kept all my receipts-paid next to nothing on my taxes while got to write off all my nice italian custom made frames and parts. At the same time too, I saw the writing was on the wall as hollywood north was moving and legal stuff was going more by fax/ electronic. A buddy hooked me up with a CNC machining trade school (which I was getting interested as most of the cycling stuff is highend manufactured)-I did evening classes studied the math and programming on weekends and paid my way and got top marks - I did CNC for a few years in the automotive t&d sector, taught myself Solidworks- even got an interview at Cervelo for R&D position (but no engineering degree)- but then the last recession hit.
Kinda felt that open road mindset would work fine with me and OTR but as you know, there's the promise and then there's the reality.
But I laugh at you guys talking about lazy- trucking is one of the laziest easiest jobs out there- you just sit there, hour after hour day after day- it's so easy there are plenty of wiry 70 year olds driving- or some kid from a 3rd world village never seen a car before except for when the local military commander would roll through- the kid comes here gets trained and winds up driving an 80 0000+ lb triple through downtown montreal or wherever a few months later- and he backs just about as fast as some slob who completely let himself go 20+ years in the seat- and nothing to show for it but diabetes and heart disease. The thing is, some drivers get so lazy, even when the checks get smaller, the layoffs and companys going tits up overnight, you grimly hang on unwilling to try to learn something new or rock the boat. Stubbornness or stupidity, go hand in hand sometimes it seems. LOL -
Why are you on this forum?CanadianVaquero Thanks this. -
ramman: I have never read such gibberish as the crap you posted. You should go to some other forum instead of baiting us!!!! Troll Alert

I completely 100% agree/understand with what you're saying. I left the paid by the mile BS a few years ago and have since been paid by the hour. Only way you're not going to have those days or hours that you're not getting a pay per hour that we deserve and have earned.
When I was OTR I was paid to tarp/untarp, pick and drop and load, strap/unstrap blah blah blah and still had a hard time making $18 an hour, and I hauled ### while driving AND loading and unloading. It sucks.. -
If you are not making at least $20.00 for each hour you are actually working (not sleeper berth or off duty) then either you are doing it wrong or you are working for a crap company with crap routes and crap customers. You need to look at Kijiji or Driverlink.com once in a while. There are tons of jobs that are mostly easy highway miles with little citywork.
