the only way to do this would be to get the TANKERS AND THIER COMPANIES TO SIT for one day a study has shown that this would bring the modern travel lanes to a standstill,,,,,, ,, think about it for a moment, stopping frieght doesn't do that much good,, these big companies have thought about these strikes and stocked up on supplies,,,,NOW if you don't deliver gas or fuel for 24 hours what would happen.......:yes2557::yes2557:

    uh...something would happen?
I think you are thinking of the diesel islands where the trucks roll in quite frequently since the big trucks use so much fuel. However, that is NOT the case at every gas station. I don't know the average as far as how long a fill up for the big tanks lasts at regular gas stations, but Id be willing to guess a couple of days at least. Depends on how many tanks they have, how busy they are...etc.

Either way, if the trucks stop, due to a strike or whatever, the fuel prices (not sure what the point was of yoru post, fuel prices or what)...that might have gone down a tad, will skyrocket because of increased demand and limited supply due to the thirsty tanks.

The trucker who thinks a strike or shutdown will help the country is like your neighbor who pours gasoline on your burning house in his efforts to help.

i suppose you don't fill your tanks every day, but if you THINK for a moment and do not rush to judgment on the lack of consumption of fuel or gas you would realize that with a tanker shutdown the country would have to shut down and then and only then would the great government that you probably voted for would have to meet the drivers demand and LOWER the fuel prices,,,DUH:biggrin_25526:

No, its because Im using common sense. First, good luck in trying to get anything resembling a nationwide shutdown to happen with the tankers.

Second, not all truck stops are serviced via fuel trucks, they can have a fuel pipeline.

Third. With truck stops, they can have a large amount of tanks to hold a large volume of fuel.

Fourth, most of the people who drive cars don't fuel up everyday. I said most. The others who do fuel up daily...it would be a problem for them. But I don't nkow the percentage of the traveling public that actually fuels up their cars daily.

Fifthlike, if the shutdown were to happen, all it would do is cause a frenzy at the pumps...people buying as much fuel as they can...topping off their tanks. Id be sure to bet that fuel prices would go up right there! Then, as time goes on with this strike, the high demand for low supply would cause fuel to go up even higher! Sure, eventually when it impacts the oil industry, they would lower the fuel to appease the truckers or whatever, but then the demand would skyrocket again and so would the price because everybody and their dog would run out to fill up their empty tanks. Now, you might think that it would lower the demand because of the supply. Our current supply isn't that good in the first place...and it would remain somewhat constant throughout the ordeal, but the demand would go way up when the strike is over and the fuel is back in the tanks.

Sixth-eth, what research have you done that proves we are paying high fuel prices compared to the rest of the world? Don't tell me its because the prices have gone up so dramatically in the past year. The price of fuel is 8-9 bucks a gallon AND MORE in other parts of the world.

How much has been done in the auto and trucking industry to increase fuel mileage? uh...zippo.

How far down has the value of the dollar gone? Its worth less than the Canadians. And still dropping.

The housing market has collapsed due to people who were unable to buy a house getting financing through a flawed system created by money hungry investers who lowered the requirements for said homes. Ever wonder why most of the people who bought those homes never had to disclose any prove of income or employment?

Our economy and the market supports speculation which doesn't require that fuel is passed onto the buyer which adds an extra few bucks to each barrel of oil.

But yea, lets get some truckers together and stop the flow of fuel (which is already maxed out already), causing the economy to take a further nose dive because we can't cope with an increased cost of operation.

I was listening to a driver the other day talk about his team run from Micigan to Oregon...they used to use about 1100 gallons of fuel for the run. They have since slowed down, and done some other things to improve mileage, they dropped it down to using 800 gallons of fuel. 300 gallons less at 4.5 a gallon and you can see they are making as a team over $1k extra a week just by changing how they operate.

Im not an owner op, that is known. However, fuel is a cost of operation. You need to do whatever and everything you can to improve mileage. If anything, that should have been done long before this fuel crisis because the better your fuel economy, the more money in your pocket. And for those who get good fuel surcharges, have an aerodynamic truck, and great mileage...they are not paying to fuel up, but GETTING paid to fuel up the truck.

if you don't treat it like a business, which it is, then it is doomed to failure.
