For the New Drivers .................(space)

    The only true friend that you have out on the road is space.

    Use it wisely and often.

    Don't get into the "impatient game" like a I see a lot of truckers doing every day.

    Stay off the guy in front of you.

    Stay out of clusters of vehicles when you can......although not always avoidable. Lift a little and let the cluster pass on by.

    Leave yourself an out. Left side, right side, or front.......never get wrapped up around other vehicles when you can help it.

    Why am I posting this? Just saw a fellow company driver today............. a year from retirement........... lose his job for being impatient and getting into a avoidable accident. He had a couple other accidents over the years, but they were spread out with time, and were fairly minor.

    He was in a hurry today as usual to get back to the yard, and ended up rear ending a car and he sent that car into a chain reaction with (4) other cars at a stop light. The cars in front of him did stop sort of quick for the light, but he didn't react soon enough.

    I was was about 300 feet behind him when it happened......because I don't play the hurry game.

    a lot of us get impatient as the time nears for some things. in other words, many of us cannot wait for our vacation to start, so we make haste in getting to the end of the work week.

    some of us cannot wait for the Christmas Holiday to get here and we run around shopping, thinking we won't get it all done.

    hurriedness and impatience are all over the place.

    Im new to driving and my trainer would get so angry because i wouldnt run through downtown cinncinatti wide open. I finally just asked him one day, " does it really matter if we get to the yard at 9:15 instead of 9:00?"
    Sometimes you gotta take it and be aggressive he told me.
    Training is over and i make a concious effort to not tailgate or drive in clusters.

    I used to commute over 1100 km one way every 14 days for camp work. I've made that commute over 100 times in the last 5 years and honestly, my day is pretty much shot after driving 11 hours straight. What's an extra hour if it means getting home safe and in one piece?
