If you don't offer health insurance for my family, I'm not going to give you even a moments consideration as a potential employer. Benefits are a form of compensation, and unless you're paying at least double the industry average on the cpm your pay is definitely NOT up to par with no health insurance available. The fact that you have Petes with APUs is irrelevant.
I am a company driver and I am exactly the type of employee that you want to have in your truck (a responsible and safe driver with a young family), and you will not get applications from me or from those like me when you don't offer a reasonably price comprehensive family health plan.
That's just the way I see it.

That is why I think he needs to fin an owner op who wants out. A guy like that is used to paying for his own insurance. -
That certainly does greatly narrow his potential candidates. I assume that he pays more to compensate for the lack of benefits. A very small company cannot buy a group health plan at the rates a mega carrier can.

I don't work for a mega. Granted my company has more than 4 trucks, but the megas arn't the only ones with health benefits. My company pays me a #### good salary (I don't get paid by the mile) and has top notch insurance available at a reasonable cost. I also am home every night, off every weekend, and work a total of about 45 hours per week (I usually drive a little over 2200 miles per week). That's why the OP has no chance of getting someone like me to drive his fancy Peterbilts.Shaggy Thanks this.

Oh, I don't disagree. The no benefits greatly narrows his potential field of candidates. I'm just trying to give the guy some creative ideas to find what he wants. I would not work for him with no benefits. I don't meet his qualifications either. -

Not everyone needs benefits. I personally do not want or need benefits. But you guys are right it narrows the field of prospects.

Also, someone who is retired military could do it. They may want more in cash than bennies, anyway. -
The benefits package is always a struggle with any small business. It gets priced way out of reach. At the same time, our employees have health insurance that they buy themselves. I believe the last figure I heard was $127 per month. (single healthy person) For me to offer health Insurance I would have to cut our rate per mile in half.
