I actually applied with Trimac and Groendyke online. Groendyke was odd: I got an email from a recruiter that "highly encouraged" me to fill out the whole application. To which, they then sent me an email saying I didn't meet the minimum requirements. But they had enough information the first time to make that decision. Trimac sent me an email saying they didn't want, so I called and asked and was told it was because I was too far away. I explained that I was only 20 miles from Greeley, and the girl on the phone said she would change something in the system, since their radius is apparently 30 miles.
I'll try the others as well. Thank you.
I'd also love to get in a truck to practice, but I don't know how one accomplishes this. My training on the MTV was "go drive that truck." I had to ask how to turn the power on, and the lights, but after that it all comes naturally to me.
Just did the Vets2Trucks program

Some tanker outfits are strange. I worked for one pulling hazmat 48 states and they required 2 yrs. tanker experience, but while I was there they hired 2 new CDL grads. Those guys made over $60K their first year solo. I'm surprised Groendyke didn't hire you; they've been recruiting at some CDL school in other states; maybe don't need drivers at that particular terminal.

From what I've heard, this terminal is hiring. My neighbor drives for Colorado Crude Carriers(where I did apply, and got a positive reception in a mini-interview, but they are moving things around at the moment I guess), and has a friend that works at Groendyke, and I put his name down as a referral too. Though I do want to stop by the location, and see if I can talk to someone.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Well I just got a call from Waste Management to schedule an interview on Wednesday. This is for an oilfield tanker position.

CR England called me today, to set up a phone interview time. I've read enough about them on here to be very cautious on this one. Going to stop by Groendyke on the way to my WM interview tomorrow.

Groendyke is a good choice.

I wouldn't even take the CR England interview. WM is a large, decent company, probably with lots of turnover, which means if you work hard and keep your head down you may find yourself quickly moving up the position and pay ladder.

WM interview went well, I thought. Though I got an email Monday saying they have chosen to go with others. Drove around a bunch, looking for small local companies. Dropped an application off today at Wright Choice, and it sounds promising. He is going to call me to come back for a driving test, when his mechanics are available. They are an oilfield company. Groendyke is attempting to work with their insurance on the 2 years military service. Waiting a few days to hear back on that.
CR England, without barely saying anything, wanted me to go to SLC this week, or next. Then wanted 6 months of OTR training, with only the possibility of getting a local or regional job if one opened up. I declined. Being National Guard, they said they would give me a letter to excuse me from drill for 3 months. That's not why I joined the Guard. I intend to be there for my weekends. -
I would think your Natl' Guard experience plus maybe a refresher course should do the trick. I know a couple guys who did the program here in VA and the companies consider you to have gotten your CDL since when you got your military equivalent. But there's an insane amount of Gov't and Military here so that may have something to do with it.
