    hey guys

Im looking at buying a classic KW and restoring it and registering it as a historic vehicle

Does it need to have CA #, DOT #, MC # and I have to run logbooks and abide by all the commercial regs?

Only if you're going to be operating it commercially.

You could buy a brand new KW and run it without any #'s if you're using it as an RV

Pickup trucks are registered as commercial vehicles in California.

But you don't need a DOT or CA number unless you're using them commercially.

You might want to contact some CA chapters from the American Truck Historical Society (aths.org) and see what their members are doing. CA has 8 chapters listed on their website. In OH all you need are plates and insurance. Also, there are ins co that insure historical vehicles (Gulfway, Hagerty, etc).
