    I wanna clear something up for u. Most of us vets who had a cdl while on active duty that got out and tried finding work got told this

    1. Military driving experienced can't be verified
    2. U don't have enough or experience under ur belt
    3. U have to start from day 1 as a student
    4. U can't work for us ur experience ce can't be verified.

    Now u see these 4 do those sound familiar. I have 88M and BU2 on my dd214's which means i had verifiable experience but no civilian company would accept any of my 9-1/2 yrs of driving experience.

    For starter companies I would suggest only 1 from my experience

    Transport America. They are awesome.

    The 1 weekend off thing is no problem. Companies are required by law to give u ur drill weekend off. They might complain and fuss about it but they have no legal choice.

    Hmmmmm....

    Seems I've heard all of those before. Even after I got experience in a van, I was told I needed securement training for flatbed. Seems securement experience on trailers, Train cars, and in aircraft in the military isn't enough.

    @Speedwagon98 my advice to you being prior military as well national guard and Marines. I drove the 931 and 969 5k tanker for bout 11 years. Use 1 month of your gi bill and go to a Cdl school you won't get a job with no verifiable over the road experience or 169 hr course. Just because the dmv thinks driving that thing was companies do not. And I can tell you right now if you did not study up on dot rules and regs you are just going to get yourself in trouble on the road. IMO they need to get rid of those programs because driving an automatic box truck with a 10k trailer is compatible to driving a Ford F-350 with a average size trailer not a 80k tractor trailer. Shifting through gears.

    I understand some of your points. But comparing a 50k truck and trailer to an F350 with a trailer? I'm not sure I follow on that one.

    Just got back from my drive test with Groendyke. Took me a few minutes to get the trans, but by the end of the drive I was doing well. The shop foreman went with me on the drive, and said to the manager "He was spoiled driving automatics in the military, but had the hang of it by the end of the drive." They sent me over for a physical and UA, and said he'd give me a call when that comes back to find out when I want to start!

    Edit: The truck I drove was one of their older Freightliners with the 10 speed, and an asphalt tanker on the back. Didn't have any trouble backing it up twice into the spots designated, and didn't hit anything on the test drive. :)

    Congratulations!

    The military is basically the reason we have auto transmissions, not sure if we should be thankful or not:confused:.

    Dont worry about it though. Most schools are (hopefully) just preparing you to not be a dangerous 80,000 lb potential missile.

    Most of the learning comes once you start the job.
