Maybe it's time to change your business model. Grow your direct freight; and only use brokers as needed. As a small businessman you can't haul Swift flatbed division freight off loadboards and have a viable operation in my opinion. Just a thought.
Secondly, pay percentage. Don't argue with your guys about it.........if you are hauling what you should: it pays better. Already been said; but don't advertise. Go by word of mouth. I'd also buy a quality used truck and seat a guy for a bit; if he turns out to be gold: buy him a new ride.
Random thoughts; the biggest to me is to seriously consider where/how you are getting your freight so you have more dollars on the table to play with. Have a great Labor Day weekend!

You want quality drivers, but you're not providing the compensation package required to lure them from their current employer. I learned this the hard way on my first go round hiring drivers. ACA has ok insurance for small business'. If you don't have the margin to pay healthcare, then your rates aren't what they need to be or your overhead is too high. BTW, I never hired a single driver by advertising, and I spent a decent amount. Everyone that was hire able were recruited while they were working.
Billerd Thanks this. -
Just keep burnin thru guys..Theres some serious runners out there!!! Your just having bad luck
If I bought new trucks, they would come back clean or i would have someones butt in a sling...It would be fully explained and agreed to beforehand, and a affidavit would be signed agreeing to a deduct for trashing the truck...
Jeez man, your post made me mad!! lol -
I still want to know the pay. But its good, I got that.
You don't have much to lose to tell us what it is.Smooth_Operator and johndeere4020 Thank this. -
Willing to talk a whole lot about the rest of the business but not pay.
Having a problem getting good drivers, but good pay is what pulls in good drivers.
Not saying pay isnt good, but what is stopping you from not saying what you pay? (Most people would think its that you dont pay).PayCheck and johndeere4020 Thank this. -
Would this be good?
Pay driver 60% of the trucks weekly net profit. Avg net to the truck is $1800 on 2500 miles.
Medical, dental, & vision insurance paid 100% for driver & 50% for family.
Home at least every other weekend for a 3 day weekend.
1 week vacation after 1 year. 2 weeks after 3 years. 3 weeks after 10 years.
$50 cash for birthday
Christmas bonus is $100 cash for every year the driver has been employed here.
Just thinking out loud here to get some feedback. Still a year away from adding trucks. -
