Ran a route this week, Thursday 596 miles, 14 drops to retail stores and restaurants.
On my 4th Del, I fell and broke my ankle while hustling a small restaurant order to the end of the trlr. At that point I went into survival mode, finished my route! I let dispatch know I was injured, woke up Thurs morning, couldnt put any weight on the ankle, promptly called dispatch to let them know I might not be able to run the route Saturday.
HR sent me to there urgent care where I was drug tested xray'd, put in a foot brace and sent home.
Is it normal these days to be drug tested when you twist your ankle, or are they trying to get rid of me? I have worked my az off for these guys, a lot of drivers would have never finished that route, I just dont get it!

Any insurance claim for a corporation will be accompanied by a UA.... they'd love to say 'we're not paying cuz he was _____' dang.... alot of places have a 'report everything immediately ' policy too. Hope you heal up quick, hand. Hope you don't catch any flak over waiting a day. Sorry to hear

Thanks brother! I didnt wait a day, I told them within 1 hr that I twisted my ankle, and called them first thing the next morning to let them know they better find someone else for that route.
Dr told me 2 months on crutches, first thing I did was put a little whiskey in the jarroo, and ice on the foot!
Be forwarned, I will be lurking around here for a while. ;)

Yeah you're lucky they don't have an 'immediate notice' policy or clause in your handbook.

If they really wanted to get rid of you you'd be gone for that already

ANY accident/injury is cause for a UA. No big deal I wouldn't worry about it. Standard procedure almost anywhere now.

Edit - didn't see your subsequent response. Still no big deal I wouldn't worry about it

Anytime you have an accident a drug test is required.I hit a tree branch in Philly yrs back and tore the dome of trl off,I had to take a drug test for that once I got back to the terminal.

If you have the work ethic to finish your day after that I can't image them trying to get you to leave. They know you are a fighter. Standard procedure

Haha, eat your heart out Timothy Leary!
I figured if a driver has a traffic accident, then a drug test makes sense, but this was a twisted ankle?
Two weeks ago I took a drivers route for a week, he got suspended because he dropped the wrong pallet at the wrong store 3 times in a row, now that sounds like an occasion for a drug test, but he never was tested as far as I know of!
