    Greetings!
I'm currently about to enroll in a CDL-A school. I've jumped through the hoops to get an exemption for my diabetes from FMCSA and I've sent them the appropriate paperwork.
Does anyone have a link to whatever website I can look at to see if the FMCSA has recieved, or started to process my paperwork?

Yes, I am. I've been working on this for about 6 months now; I've gotten the appropriate forms filled out by a 'board certified endocrinologist', and opthalmologist, and i've passed the DOT physical. I've sent the forms to the FMCSA and I'm awaiting a reply, but I can't find the link for where to check that they received the paperwork and are processing it.
FYI, if anyone else is interested, you CAN get a CDL if you're insulin dependent. You have to fit the FMCSA criteria and fill out reams of paperwork, but it can be done. I'm just trying to find out where to check that they got the paperwork.
Any help that will point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I always thought they would only give you an interstate restricted CDL, am I wrong?

According to the research I've done so far, as long as you haven't had any hyopglycemic (low blood sugar) incidents, and whatever your numbers are, you've been stable and well controlled, the only "restriction" is that you have to file for the waiver, and you have to get the forms filled out by your endocrinologist and your eye Doc every 6 months. The exemption / waiver comes from the FMCSA and is good for 2 years. Here's a link to the info, if you're interested:

Thats the general medical section. This one is the exemption paperwork:

    Hope that helps!

Unless you can lose the insulin they will not approve your med wavier. that said why can't you use one of the other "non insulin" meds available?

Well, the FMCSA seems to disagree with that, and that's what I'm hoping will happen. As for the non-insulin meds, if I could have, I would have, it would have saved me time, money, and paperwork.

I do not know of any links, think you have to call them to find out. I say this because I am working on getting a vision waiver from them, waiting for my MVDR from my old state (CT) before I send in all the paper work. What fun getting letters from old driving jobs with all the needed info the way the government wants it!

I do have a waiver form my old state (CT) just to keep my CDL and the new state (NC) used it to transfer my CDL. But in doing so they lost a copy of the waiver and want to roll my CDL back to just a car license. I have faxed in 2 sets of papers and they still cant get it in the system right. They gave me 90 days to fix this and I have to be close to that now.

This state wavier is for Intrastate only, cannot cross state lines. When NC tried to put me in the system FMCSA has me as I can cross state lines so it took me 3 days to transfer my CDL.

Now don’t know of diabetes requirements and think it is the same but for vision you need a state waiver in good standing for 3 years before FMCSA will look at granting a waiver. This state wavier is for Intrastate only, cannot cross state lines. When NC tried to put me in the system FMCSA has me as I can cross state lines so I have a real mess on my hands with my CDL.

Now when I called FMCSA 2 weeks ago they did say send in ALL the required documents and will look it over. If I remember they can take up to 180 days to say yes or no to the waiver so I can cross state lines.

Bottom line call FMCSA and ask them if they got your paper work. When I did to NC a week after I faxed in my papers they lost the fax.

Good luck and keep us posted

Only in writing, reality is you will not get the wavier. The way it is written as long as you are not insulin dependent you are good to go.
