What is the deal when weigh stations pull you in, only to wave you by and not even make you get on the scale? I'm not complaining, just asking because I'm curious...

    Weigh in motion.

If a red flag pops up, they pull you in.

Couple of things could be happening.

There's supposedly some quota of trucks that have to pass through weigh stations every day/week/month or something. I don't put stock in that one myself......

The other thing, it's a great deal easier to find clunkers to pull over for inspections at 25-35mph than it is to stop them at 65+.

As for exactly why? Well... Couldn't tell you. I don't know any dot officers to ask.

Don't know about your locale, but in FL they have sensors that actually weigh, measure height-width-length, and read your MC/DOT number while you're in motion (the system is set at certain parameters, hence why it says "maintain 45 mph" here)
If there's any discrepancy or abnormality, or you're close to the weight or measurement limits, they pull you on the scale for an anal probe.....er.....closer look.....

Doesn't matter what you call it... You've still gotta bend over to take it.

BTW- The aforementioned is all fact- learned first-hand from some nice DOT officers....
Hauling dedicated OSOW I've spent more than my fair share of time in weigh stations.....

I want to say I've seen similar systems in La, Tx and maybe Va. But don't quote me on that.

Didn't some of the western states put in systems that'd track your location to help with log book verification?

The DOT wants to look real close at you when you're yanking something the opposite of the kind of women you want...

Oversized. Overweight. Oddly shaped. Hazardous to your health. ;)
