With manual steering and all the shifting involved on every hill these days the HOS would be 6 hrs rather than 14! Beautiful old truck you have there! Reminds me of the first highway truck I drove, was identical style, then KW, then a fancy new 1982 Pete cabover with power steering, air seat...
I remember running down I-5 around Corning, CA with my co-driver at the wheel and me bouncing a foot hi off the mattress, had to be a special kind of tired to sleep, lol.

I like this beauty. They come out nice when done right.
haycarter, brian991219 and truckon Thank this. -
My uncle bought one new in 1970. At 5 years old, I couldn't climb up the 2 steps, so I stepped on the lower lug nuts, the hub cover upper lug nuts and then crawled in. Btw, in 1970, the truck came new with 11/22.5s instead of 10.00/20s.OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.

Nice old rig that you have, my first was a '70 IH 4070 with a 318 or 8v71 13 speed. was wondering on how long it took for your kidney's to stop bouncing once you got outa it, ummm do I see a crossover hanging a little low?

Truck also had no jake and no brakes on steering axle
OLDSKOOLERnWV and SLANT6 Thank this. -
My 74 KW also had no brakes on steering axle. Along with no power steering. A jake was a luxury. I never had one.

As the young kids say ( or used to ) , bump on all of the cabover pics .

My unc's Freightliner had a Jake. We were in Orange County, and you pulled and came down 5 mile 5% grades to get out of town. Jakes are almost necessary. BTW, at that time, it went without saying it was a cabover. Freightliner didn't make conventionals yet!
