Actually, I was in the CIA, but I can never divulge any specific information about the black ops I was involved in. I did my best work under cover.

Hey you guys want to see my prison tatto. Went into to a ts yesterday to clean my windshield. Never again. I'm ashamed to even be in a truck anymore. There like homeless ppl with a really bad job. Nothing personal folks I'm just on my last few miles before retirement. 3 near misses in 2 days. I really need to get off the road.

I remember showing up to one place and they told me where the receptionist was because they thought I didn't know I was in the receiving office, not the front office where I belonged. They were surprised when I told them I was there for a pick up. Clean cloths, teeth brushed, deoderant and sometimes dress shoes. I didn't look the part. I've had my license for 30 years.

What makes a driver worth less to a carrier

I'm talking about guys working at an OTR truckload company with a 3+ week out policy and still demanding weekends home and get all upset when they're a day or 2 late.

I'm talking about guys who miss half their appointments for a host of reasons that keep occurring because of the driver's "bad luck".

I'm talking about guys who b##ch and gripe about half of the loads they get for this reason or that reason. And they don't have sense enough to know that the reason they get all of the crap loads is because they already proven time and time again they can not be depended on with the tighter, longer loads.

I'm talking about the guys who park when they see the first snow flake

I'm talking about guys who stop 4+ times in the middle of the work day on cross country trips when those lost hours can be critical toward the end of the trip perhaps due to worsening weather near the destination

I'm talking about the guys who can't properly manage their time. Always hitting traffic jams at the worst time, then griping about getting stuck in traffic

I'm talking about guys who "get lost" several times a month and end up making bad navigation choices as a result.

I'm talking about guys who let their truck turn into a huge mess, inside and out

I'm talking about guys who run out of fuel

I'm talking about guys who hear a low tire "thud" but say "it's not flat" and run it anyway then gripe because they blew a tire 3 hours later.

The office people at the carrier can discern the "good drivers" from the "ok" (or worse) drivers in about 2-3 months, faster in the winter months.

I can go on but it's time for lunch.

I have voted NO to the question and if there is a shortage i think it's a shortage of good companies.

in order to be able to drive a truck safely, one should be at the very least, into the Hershey's frame

other wise, he/she would be of a "shortage size"...
