Finding someone that is as conscientious as an owner would be is a tough proposition: guys that good usually own there own business and do well at it in my experience.
Money is what it is. Surprisingly I've seen some really good guys do a great job, when you hear what they make it's like >:/ wut
They work for less a lot of times, feel more obligated to their jobs and bosses and companies. Generally are friendly on the upfront, a bit sour behind closed doors.
Hard to believe.
I would unfortunately agree with some of the others- insurance would be a draw for good employees. Guys with families that need that net for medical expenses. Hungry for a job that they know will take care of them n their families.

Really...this Driver Cares. I am a retired USCG 100 Ton Master Captain, who wanted to go trucking...went to school passed given a 2012 Shaker 3 months of on time my dispatcher says pick up a new 2014 T680 at out terminal after Christmas. ..I have over 240k on it been inspected 3 times last one last week each trooper thought it was right off the lot.....its so clean. I just moved to Colorado I will take care of your equipment never be late unless weather causes it. Call me, 920. Four50. 158zero

To expand on this, the reason why a company should pay percentage is because it attracts smart drivers.
A smart company driver will know what a load is worth and what he should be paid. The sign of a consciousness driver is one that pays attention to details.
I work local and there was 2 things I was taught, don't ever go to a pipe yard and refuse tarp loads. Neither pay well.
All of y'all do them to get out of bad areas. I get that. I choose to live in an area that I don't have to do them. I get paid well regardless.

I use to be a District Manager for a convenience store chain. The first thing I learned is 95% of all good employees all ready have a job. That is the first place to start. pouching employees is now a valid form of recruitment these days. with the rare exception no one will take care of your equipment like you would. It is a cold hard fact they have no monetary loss if the equipment brakes down and tickets even the small ones are seen as part of the job and good fodder for the next trucker ##### session at the truck stop.
Never look for employees when you need them it sucks but you should always be looking for employees it is a turn over world and it is better to have someone waiting in the wings then scrambling to find a wheel holder to be a seat warmer.
have you ever given any thought to starting a training program nothing large just one or two people hire them as fill in drivers for vacations and such train them they way you want your employees to be. this is a double edge sword because the fuel is always cheaper across the street and no one stays at a job forever anymore but you have a opportunity to train new drivers not the wheel holder mills.Billerd Thanks this. -
My opinion may not have a lot of validity because I heave less than a year and a half driving experience, however I did own my own non trucking related business. Here it is, IF the OP fills the slot is going to need to fill and in the process he finds two exceptional candidates, maybe it would be worth his while to purchase another truck if has the freight volume to keep it running??? The problem with the no tarp theory is that you probably should not be in open deck type work if tarping is an issue for you. We don't use tarping to get out of bad areas, it just comes with the territory. Personally, other than the occasional weather related issues (Involving tarping) I don't find tarping to be that big of a deal. We only tarp about one of every five or six loads though.MJ1657 Thanks this.

I kinda maybe forgot to mention that I don't do typical open deck work, I dont leave the house for less than $4 mile
