My sleeper dome light has 2 fluorescent lights. I have replaced them already. They don't do any good for lighting up the sleeper area. I seen other trucks have bright ones. It's a pete 387.
Could it be bad ballast? or is that normal with 387's? Led tube available and do they put out good lighting?
Better lighting for sleeper dome lights

The 387 has a dual switch. One next to steering and one in bunk. One goes bad. It messes the whole system.
Pick the switch you want and disconnect the other. Best is wire up bunk only to fuse and and bunk switch.
Otherwise invest in another light source from an RV place. And mount in place and try and run wires.Studebaker Hawk Thanks this. -
It sounds like your light fixture is bad and most semi-truck fluorescent light fixtures have no User Serviceable Parts inside, which means you will need to buy a new fixture from Paccar or try to find a used one at a junk yard.

Buy the LED replacement. Got mine for a 379 at the KW dealer. I think around $120 or so, Check around different places but, they are not too terribly priced and last for everl

For about $30, TRP has a universal LED light that works great. It's twice as bright (50 LEDS) and fits inside the factory housing once you remove the bulbs and ballast. Any Pete or KW dealer can order you one.

I had dual fluo lamp, but when it went bad I removed it and fit two bright LED
Better any fluo lamp, but I had to install two trigger relays to control lamp from sleeper and from dash. -
I ended up getting a Permalite led dome light from Tomah, WI Peterbilt for $103 out the door. Turned out very well, very bright! http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/p...-22111/led-dome-light-permalite-p-v84-5122111
It is not exact fit but I made it to work using the existing dome light frame and gutted the fluorescent wiring and ballast. I left the switch control in and used the black and white wire from it. That way I can still use both front and sleeper switch. -
The TRP ones work great and are twice as bright. For $30, all you need to do it gut the ballast and wiring, drill 2 holes to mount it and hook up 2 wires. Put the stock lens right back on and it looks original, works with the factory switches too. We done 3 of them so far, it's not worth fixing the factory one.

Same problem with my Freightliner. Guess I will go to Paccar and give it a try...
