My biggest problem so far is that most states seem to issue entirely too many class E licenses. YMMV.

I have a big problem with being paid by the mile. Especially the fact that I'm fueling for free. The best money I ever made in my life was fueling oilfield equipment (semi tractors, pumps, blenders, etc) I was bringing home checks (after taxes, insurance, 401k) $1600+ every week. That makes it really difficult for me to fuel a truck for free.

While the trucking media likes to get drivers all worked up about four wheelers, traffic, regulations, government . Most of the problems in trucking stem from the office and CPM pay structure. Since trucking companies to not have to pay, do not have to take responsibility for managing their company they leave that burden and its related problems to the driver.

If you don't have to pay all a driver's work, there is no motivation for managing the work or managing the customers to minimize the work. CPM pay structure allows trucking companies to obfuscate that obligation.

but you agreed to work for the cpm they offered, knowing full well you do not get paid for fueling the truck... don't like the pay, don't accept the job. There are 1000 others willing to do the job for what they are paying.

Why should the trucking companies change the pay structure? what is their motivation? when there are 1000's every week lining up to go to work.

I have ALWAYS made more money working by the piece rate, regardless of the industry, which is what cpm is. It is all about working smart.

The issue isn't that the pay is too low, IMO. The issue is that the very nature of how a cpm incentivizes all kinds of behaviors that I'm sure we'd all agree are not good. There will always be places that pay well and others that don't.

    trucking1234567 and Toomanybikes Thank this.
