cross border mail box can comes handy if you are in ON or QB. I was fed up with paying extra shipping plus 18% tax whenever I buy stuff from eBay

I've got a 1/2" Mac impact in my service truck. Rated at 1,250 ft-lbs. It takes most truck lug nuts off just fine and it's quick and light. Only cost $400 and they threw in a free jacket. I've been using it full time daily for the last 3 years without an issue. For the bigger jobs, I bust out my Matco 3/4" impact. 1,800 ft-lbs I believe on that one. That one has some serious power. Cost about $800 for that one. As a guy who uses his tools everyday to make a living, I can honestly say that when it comes to tools, you get what you pay for.

Okay, I don't have much experience with air tools. I finally got a quick connect and shut off valve off one of my bleeder/drain valves for my truck and it's 1/4 inch npt. Should I get the 3/8 inch? Does the connection matter much or the air hose size?

Let's say I get a mack or snap on 1/2 inch impact. What size quick connect comes attached to the tool usually?

If I get a 1/2 inch air hose. What size quick connects do they usually come with?

Please forgive my lack of knowledge. But I've never bought air tools and I'm curious if there is a standard quick connect size for all the guns and hoses?

Most ports on the bottom of air tools are 1/4" NPT. Bigger tools will use 3/8" NPT or 1/2" NPT. You install whatever style quick connect you want. Airlines generally come with male NPT threads and you install whatever quick couplers you want.

Air hose size and fitting size are equally important. Anytime you add a restriction to airflow, you could hurt the performance of your air tools. My 3/4" gun works fine with 1/2" air line and fittings. Hook a 3/8" line to it and it doesn't hit as hard. 1/2" is more than adequate for most jobs.

I've never ran air tools off a truck's reservoir but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just have to give it time to build up some air since you won't have much volume.

Okay then, I'm going to start out with a good quality half inch impact, with half inch line and quarter inch fittings. If that won't bust my lugs after a proper torque has been established I'll try to upgrade the fitting sizes before upgrading to the 3/4 and fill inch impacts.

I still don't understand how much the quick connect fittings sizes affect the flow. My Google searches are bringing up some serious math equations, and I just need to get some experience with some trial and error I reckon.

Just think of it like a highway. When you're on a 4 lane highway everything is moving along nice and easy. But then you come up on a wreck that blocks 2 lanes. Now you have to fit the same number of vehicles that were traveling along just fine on 4 lanes, into 2 lanes. What happens? Traffic backs up and the flow slows down. I believe what that is called is the Bernoulli Principal.

I'm curious now, are you wanting an impact so that you can change your own wheels? Over the last year I've become aware of an issue that's going on with wheels whereby they are being hammered on with impacts that way over-torque them, stretch the studs, and then they may eventually come loose. (Ask me how I know). Maybe that gutless princess auto impact isn't a bad idea, you could buy one of the others for removing the nuts, and use the p/a one for putting the wheels back on, at least you won't over torque them. Then you need a torque wrench to set them to the proper torque. (I priced those out recently up here too, 600-800$.)

Oh, and for mr sheeple, if you look at the inside diameter of your air hose, lets say it's 1/2". Then take a look at the inside diameter of the couplers and quick connects. If they are smaller than the hose, you start to loose volume of air being supplied to the air tool. As soon as that happens, they won't work as well, it's like an engine that starves for gas. Hope that helps you understand a bit.

I have a Snap-On 1/2" which works well with a 3/4" adapter. If that doesn't do it, I go to a 1". 3/4 to me is a waste of money.
