Hello everyone i just wanted to write up a quick post about my experience on a new 2016 volvo just in case someone is wondering. Only put 12k miles on it so far, its a 2016 volvo 780 with isx15 525 and a 13 eaton 3.42 rears.
No problems at all so far everything is running smooth, fuel averaging 7.0 for the first 12k miles, running a reefer so mostly averaging 80 gross. At first when it had no miles it felt very weak after a little of break-in it turned in to something else quickly, The cummins really does pull compared to a d13. The empty weight of the truck and trailer, 300 gallons of fuel and a great dane reefer is 36200 lbs. the cummins is a little heavy on the front, if you want to be below 12k lbs on the steers cannot fuel more than 3/4. Fully fueled and loaded steers are around 12300. I know most states allow 13200 but some dont like MO and ARK only allow up to 12k even if your tires and axle allows more.

When I first got the truck I have, I had problems with the steer axle being heavy. Took it to a shop, had them unbolt and move the stationary fifth wheel back and rebolt it. Problem solved.

I see, in my case all i have to do is make sure to have 3/4 of fuel or less before entering states with 12k limits for steers. Considering it has dual 150s , 3/4 is not that bad to live with.mp4694330 Thanks this.

I have the D16 in my 780. Even bobtail I'm right at 12 k on steer axle ( plus have apu under passenger step ). I put 16 ply steer tires on it. Always over 12 k even with the lightest load. Touch wood I've rolled across scales in all of the lower 48 and Canada and never have been giving a hard time about steer axle being over.

I hear from many drivers that it doesnt really catch their attention as long as you dont exceed 12300. At first when i still wasnt familiar with this truck and my steers were around 12600, a dot officer ran out to look at my tire ratings and front axle rating to make sure i wasnt exceeding any limits.Grijon Thanks this.

With my Isx15 I average 8mpg going flatland, 7-7.5mpg hills. Loaded average 78000gross.

As I said I've not be questioned once in the 6 yrs I've had the truck. Maybe I've just been lucky and just jinxed myself. lol
