i had gotten one of those red light camera tickets, in my car. they take several pics, as well as a video. on the pay form, they ask if it was you driving. you answer accordingly. if it was NOT you, you supply the name and address of the person who was driving your car at the time.
from that point, i really cannot say if the ticket you get, simply gets mailed to that other person or not.
here, it is a "civil offense", so it does not go on to the driver's record. cost was back then to me, $85.00
now, here is the sore point we have with this nonsense..the camera company gets nearly all that money...!!
the city gets a cut, how much, i do not know.
as far as i do know, no more camera's have been set up, the ones in place now, i wish i could say that they will be removed, but i just do not know.
i do need to say, that if one stops, for a few seconds (??) then takes a right on red, the camera does not snap any pics. -
I heard conflicting stories on the issue of turning right on red at an intersection monitored by a camera. That's not a theory I'm in any real big hurry to test.
-
I turned right on red after a stop at one of our red light camera intersections and I got "flashed". I think because I rolled a little past the line and that triggered it. Never got a ticket though, so apparently they really do review them to see if it's a legit run or not.
-
They have to do that. If they can't get a tag number, than they don't know who the guilty party is.
truckon Thanks this. -
you don't have to test it, that's how i got my ticket. i should have stopped for a "few seconds".....??
nailed, several days later.
my little red Ranger looked all nice and shiny too..... -
another time, i got "the flash" as well, but this time, i was not only stopped, but my brake lights could clearly show they were on, and i was stopped. i learnt my lesson after the first.
-
Yeah, the states should require warning lights before the intersection for all red light cameras....you know, the kind you see flashing on highways that warn the light is about to change. Also, no private ownership of the cameras.
-
i wish i could remember all the sordid details, but i think the ACLU actually stepped in here to strike down the violations and fines, and who gets what, and turn it into a "civil offense"..
it would take me a long time to find out all that, when i can, i will and post it here.
