Joe taught me a lot, the last truck he bought was a spirit of 76. Bias tires can stroll if their not old, low on air, or been run flat. Two of those three conditions you can not control in your situation. The hotter and heaver it is the slower you go. Hauling ### and blowing two tires is not a major money maker compared to steady as you go. Joe said some times he ran with his friend James and if you want to know what can be done on bias tires look it up. I thank it is noted on line under the Southern Shaker, is on public record, and that's not bull. EDIT: Sorry I looked at what I posted to look at. It has became a little confusing. I thank he got a ticket in New Mexico for 138 MPH. and for the time frame was surely on bias tires.
What would you say the max speed full loaded 40 ft unit on a chassis can handle?

I have my Fathers Warning Ticket from the State of Nevada from 1972 for 147 in a Reasonable and proper on I-80 heading West near Reno. He got out of it by buying the Trooper the Ham Steak Breakfast that Boom Town offered Drivers at that time. Yes that was True I have seen the Ticket and before he died Confirmed the story along with the Retired NV state Trooper. Cop that wrote it had the Radar set for 140 and was Sleeping.

I got it to 123mph(my gps said it because my speedometer doesn't go that far) down a hill in Pennsylvania hauling 48000 pounds of shingles and yeah I was young(im only 26 so that still applies) and stupid

Well, think it's time to get the hip waders out cause there sure is a lot of bs in this thread.

those tires are made in china so they are a gamble some of them can last a 10000 miles others only last 100 miles

The issue tends to be with the tubes more often than the tires, at least in my experience. Mostly recaps on poorly mounted wheels that have so much wobble they make you sick. I will usually run 70 MT and 62-65 Loaded when it is a warm , sunny day. If it's cooler or if the road is wet, I will run up to 68 or so. I know it sounds silly, but a couple of mph has made difference in my results. Like previous poster said, just get an air hose with a gladhand fitting on it. The tires say 90psi on them, but I get best results at 80-85 psi. 90 is for naturals with new tubes, not beat to heck wobbly dry-rotted recaps. Hope this helps
KF7WTV Thanks this. -
Always ran the posted speed limit on whatever road I was on. But I also ran at night so sure that helped. Still would pop one occasionally. Always hated the 20' stacked from wall to wall and floor to roof with can food.

Tube type 10-20,s 85 psi max. I always check all tires with a snapon tire gauge and have a gladhand airLine. Most Loads are at 80k with a 1/3 tank of fuel. On longer runs 220 mi. or so,I,LL pull into a Wi. truckstop if that area recently had rain. And I,LL put the tandems in the Large pothole and cool the tires down.
