Did you use a plastic washer at base of antena, so it is not metal on metal?

Many of the SWR meters are no better than the internal meter.

How did you check your transmission distance?

I have found that many electronic gadgets create LOTS of noise that cuts receive distance tremendously. Try disconnecting ALL of your electronic devices in the truck, and see if that helps. I've found the biggest offenders to be those cheap USB power supplies that plug in to the 12V accessory sockets. GPS power supplies also create RF noise, as well as inverters. Disconnect and remove everything but the CB, and see if things change.

What you are saying here is exactly my problem, as soon as I turn on my fm stereo (that I have an amplifier, subs and speakers hooked to) I loose my range on my cb. What can I do to cure this? I have already ran the ground from the stereo to the frame and I'm now thinking my positive wire for the stereo may need to go to a different battery than the cb is on. I don't know but the problems Shivver is having are similar to mine.

One of those devices probably has a switching power supply and / or internal oscillator that is radiating enough RF to interfere with your CB. Most times that RF is radiated from the power connections and speaker wires. Using ferrite beads on the power and speaker leads may attenuate the RF enough to solve the problem. Also, try grounding the chassis of the amplifier as well.

    MrBill103 Thanks this.

i discovered two things.....first, forward angle on an antenna just kills your range....i know people think it bends a lot in the breeze, but it doesnt.....i just put mine to the sky, and it is much better....second, i am getting severe interference from the truck....i have no idea why. Just a recap...radio is directly wired to a battery, the forward one with no add leads. The antenna is grounded to a door bolt, sanded it well. How the hell am i getting interference!!!!??????!!!!! I just put the cobra back in, will see how that runs tomorrow. Oh, and to be specific, the interference requires a higher squelch setting, which is killing my range. I hear whining while operating the windows, more static while increasing rpm and using the engine brake. Nothing makes sense here....
