Watkins and Shepard?

Is that a company you are working for? Are you looking to become an independent owner operator or looking to work for a business? In order to haul your own loads you will need your own authority and insurance. But if you're looking to be hired you'll be under that business authority.

I spoke to a recruiter from Watkins and Shepard named SHakila. Just wondering if she is trying to recruit!
-
Nope, wrong Shakila. Actually I just joined the site to get information about transportation in general. I'm looking into the logistics field, so I'm trying to build my knowledge on the transportation industry. I seen a question and thought I could help. Nothing more, nothing less.

That's what I always preach. Find the work first.. then buy the truck needed for the work.
Simply buying a truck does not create revenue by itself.

You need to know what your expenses are and will be. Then you need to sell your truck for enough to make a profit.
If you are not familiar or well versed in the field you are trying to enter.. how do you expect to sell anything? That's like a ghetto rapper trying to sell hogs at a farmers auction. I don't see this going well for you.
Calling a shipper and offering to run their local deliveries for $.50 MI or $75 a day will not be conducive to a successful business in trucking.
HurstCanadianVaquero Thanks this. -
A common opening is, "Do you have a load that is always a problem? Let me haul it and I will take care of your problem for you".
-
I have buddies asking me all the time about buying a truck and I ask them what are they gonna haul and they look at me dumb founded. Then they'll say well I see companies hiring O/O all the time that guarantee 1.00 pm loaded and empty. I just laugh and tell them to pull out their calculator. After 20 min of a brief education they realize buying that $15k truck on Craigslist and putting a driver in it at 1.00 pm ain't gonna bring success.Hurst Thanks this.

Also you see it all the time with guys buying a truck spec'd for one segment of the industry and then wanna do something else. I've shared @double yellow link numerous times. He details exactly how one should go about becoming a O/O
Hurst and CanadianVaquero Thank this.
