I have a Uniden 980ssb that I just picked up not long ago. Anyone know if it can be tuned? I've heard no because it's all digital. Can I put anything like a rx75 or anyway to get more power. Puts out pretty good now but more power is always a good thing

Adding more power isn't necessarily going to make you transmit further.

Part of your transmit problem is everyone else's receiver problem. If I was at the receiving end I could be twice as far as everyone else and I would be able to hear you just fine.

Well, I didn't offer an opinion on the result because I haven't had him do any work for me and I don't get off on criticizing others without cause.

But he posts a 980 tune up video on YouTube nearly everyday.

No scope on his bench. Big warning sign.

I don't think there's really that much that can be done to an SMT radio anyway.

Fortunately SMT scares most "golden screwdrivers" away.

It seems that most of what he's actually doing is ruggedizing the radio and correcting some manufacturing QC issues anyway.

No scope necessary to solder screws, upgrade mic and coax wires and make sure components are actually touching the heat sinks designed to keep them cool.
