Does anyone know if this new bill they're coming out with to allow 18 years old to drive interstate, will companies change their driving age? I'm 17 and looking forward to being able to go OTR once I get out of high school, I've been driving for 3 years and very cautious of my surroundings and a lot mature than your average teen , so don't get on here saying negative stuff about an 18 year old behind the wheel of an big rig!

It was in the news , due to the growing shortage of driver they are considering
letting 18 yr olds go from state to state. It would be up to the companies as to who they would hire. It usually takes a minimum of 1 yr OTR to be considered by most companies.
So there no idea how it will play out . Companies are super conscious about liability.Jaylen729 Thanks this. -
There is plenty of trucking opportunity to work towards that is local or intrastate in the meantime

Yeah well everyone always talks about its hard for 18-20 to get hired on because of "insurance costs", so I have to find an company that'll hire local at an young age hopefully. I'm going to call everywhere!

wow that's all we need is young 18 year olds flying down the highway with an 80 000 lb missile, at that age you barely know how to drive a 4 wheeler let alone a 22 wheeler.

Well, they can already drive on the interstate within their state but can't go across an border of it, so that makes no sense as to the fact that they just made that law to shut people up about it because there's a lot of bad driver in this age group, but there's also great teen drivers. All it takes is for an company to point out the bad from the good. There's bad drivers in every age group though, I've seen some ridiculous stuff from older people that should NOT be driving, but hey that's how all of us teens are judged as an whole.Tannerpsingh Thanks this.

Yeah I've been looking into it to, I think they're trying to get all states to participate before they can move forward with it.

Typical comment by someone that don't know much about life but still thinks there the expert the older i get the more i learn how much more i need to learn There is a valid reason why they won't let you young green horns drive, just as if i just got a pilots licence and expect they'd let me fly 747's .drvrtech77, Badmon and G.Anthony Thank this.
