Driving for someone else

    I've been offered an opportunity to drive one night a week for someone else's run. This is with his own truck, is there anything I should make sure of before accepting? Basically it sounds like it's cash work (I'm not in the trucking field anymore) on my time off and I just want to make sure I won't be screwed if I get pulled over or anything along those lines. What should I make sure of? Insurance, etc?

    You have to be put on his insurance and do drug test. On your end I dont think u need to do anything

    But that is his responsibility right? Would I be held liable if he didn't do just that?

    My son does one night out and back for an O/O and makes $500. Thats more than some of these Swift and Werner drivers make all week. Im sure you will be paid 1099 but why not. Just make sure you check the normal things like proof of Ins and paperwork. Do your inspections and be safe

    Make sure all the truck paperwork is up to date. IFTA...insurance...etc. And make sure you have paperwork for the load. If it's coming from Mexico run away

    This is a one night trip - out to a local city and a few deliveries for 250$ 10ish hours work. I just want to make sure I'm okay, I'll talk to him about insurance, etc. I just don't know if he was planning on adding me to his policy, etc.

    well for $250, i'd stay home, then deliveries on top of that..?? how much each drop..?????

    I thought it was reasonable. LOL - cash work seemed enticing and it's not my main source of income. I work elsewhere but just wanted to stay reasonably fresh and on top of that it's cash in hand.

    true, but what if it goes past the 10ish hours..now you're working for maybe less than minimum, meaning a MC Donald's worker is making more than you...

    as it is, $250. for 10ish hours, is at $25, per hour. drop a load someplace, have to wait, make a pick up, traffic, construction...for $250...???


    maybe you...not me......

    the extra cash isn't worth the extra time. that's 10ish hours i could be mugging a homeless person, burning down a church, maybe even shoot out at robbery.....

    time better spent terrorizing than earning peanuts.

    Even if it went 12 hours that is 20.83 an hour. Way better than McDonald's.
