Sir had I stayed in the service, I would have retired, with twenty 5 years ago. Ughhh. However, I wouldn't have my beautiful wife and children. My wife's father retired airforce, then went civil on the same base, and retired from that. They have so many checks coming in its just crazy. Just food for thought. You got 10 years left.

It may not seem that your experience translates directly to civilian life, but have you considered a position in air freight operations with FedEx or UPS? Your military experience (regardless of MOS) also gives you priority on civil service exams; have you considered a career in firefighting or law enforcement?
-
Yes, that is very true and a fact that is not lost on me. If I sign my life away on 10 months again I might as well stay in for 20 no matter what.
-
Yes, I have considered this. The hard part is that all the reservist loadmasters have scooped up those jobs where available. Back home in Washington, that might have been an option. But in the St Louis area, I have not seen as single job posting but will continue to look and make phone calls.

get your 20 we will still be herescottlav46, Longarm, RoadRooster and 1 other person Thank this. -
Lol that is the same thing that has been going through me head reading post after post.

Dane, I suggest you apply to become a fleet manager for them. They require a 4 yr college degree OR they will consider NCOs as well and other supervisery experience.
When I went to my leaders 101 class thru jb hunt (leadership class for new managers) I met a 20 yr Gunny that they just hired to become a fleet manager.
If you're dead set on driving, jb hunt intermodal might actually be a good fit based on your requirements and I'm not a jb hunt fan boy whatsoever -
I wish you the best in any direction you choose.
Keep an eye out nationally. FedEx has large air operations nationwide.
I realize moving the family can be a challenge, but my opinion on your situation is that leveraging your experience AND military service will yield the best career opportunities.DaneKirk Thanks this. -
You know, I talked to a YRC person today and he mentioned that they had jobs like that and I would be competitive just based on being an NCO with plenty of experience. Starting to think that MIGHT be an option.

Thank you for the positive thoughts and input.
