Just want to give you all a heads up being a Road Driver at YRC Freight for those looking for a job. Note that we also hire newbies and even train people to drive, so dont let anything stop you from checking out YRC.

I have worked Conway and YRC and have been offered a job at UPS Freight, FEDEX Freight and Estes. It may appear like FEDEX has the best pay and Conway has the best overall package. But the Union benefits and the work conditions at YRC is miles ahead of the competition even with the recently implemented 15% temporary pay reduction. In the end YRC works out to be better pay wise as you get more miles and other types of compensation such as 30 minutes for fueling or layover pay etc., etc., etc.

You never touch freight. Stay in decent hotels. One I stay in Cleveland, OH is a Clarion Resort with an indoor Olympic size pool and King Size beds. Other may be not as good, but I hear some are even better.

Most of the time the set is already hooked up. You just get in and drive. At the destination, park your truck and check out, not even unhook or bump the dock. Occasionally at some terminals you may have to drop and hook.

You get paid for everything even including being stuck in traffic.

Best of all, everyone, even senior management, calls me by Mr. mylastname. Never, a "hay driver". Its a culture that cannot be beat. Being a Union shop, I was very skeptical, but the Union is a real brotherhood. I never had one snitch on me or not proactively give me a hand often without even asking.

Nobody yells at you. Nobody questions you like they don't believe your story. The culture is that everyone does their job and people trust each other and watch each others back. I have pulled a 53 ft. trailer with manifest for 47,995 lbs. I was sure I will get a ticket, but went over three scales with no problems. Thats how good the dock crew that loads the trailers are.

I didnt even know jobs like this existed in America anymore.

Yes, our equipment is not the best, but hey it does the job and if it breaks down help is dispatched immediately and you get paid by the hour. Yes, you see some negative drivers, but they too have been their for a lifetime and wont leave, though they may say stuff like this job sucks... go to UPS etc. They are pissed about their pension that got cut by 75%. Thats what that is. But I will take 25% pension over no pension elsewhere.

I am not a recruiter. Do not get referral fee. I have asked a lot of questions on this board and a people helped me here. Just returning the favor.

Dont take my word for it. Aks any YRC driver how long he's been there. 95% will tell ya, 20, 30 years, 35 years etc... They leave only when they no longer can drive. That should tell you something.

well when you say things like (OUR equipment) instead of the co equipment & (WE) also hire newbies instead of the co hires newbies, then yeah one might think you have a bias & a reason for it.

All YRC equipment is a rolling death trap - old junkers with band-aids. They are 1% of the teamsters payroll, they don't give a #### about YRC. How many times can YRC bankrupt. Don't listen to this recruiter

Their pension has been cut by 75% and you think that in thirty years your 25% is still going to be there? Recently implemented pay cut? Go back 5-7 years and look at the temporary pay cuts and how much the drivers got back from them.

Maybe when you retire you'll be able to spend a few nights in a Clarion with your hotel points but I wouldn't count on much more.

Why are YRC drivers the poorest dressed ones on the road? I mean really...they look slovenly. Hard to tell the difference between a CRST driver and a YRC one.

Stop paying those union dues and get a uniform.

Okay...lol. I believe in collective bargaining. I also believe that anyone that hasn't worked in a union shop has NO right to dis the environment. Period. If you've worked as a Teamster and have issues with it, feel free to let your experiences sway your opinion. You truly have to work in a union atmosphere to appreciate the value of the binding legal document we call a contract.

NOW...to the OP who claims there's no such thing as union snitches - in what Utopia do you reside??! There are more "Meesters" infiltrating our once great unon every day. Guys that think they can get ahead by butt kissing makes me sick and reminds of the 2 union free carriers that employed me in the past.

Before I ramble on further, I'll end this by saying that I have a respect for all professional drivers on the road. To bash another's company isn't productive because that job may work perfectly for that respective driver. On the other hand, to glorify a company in the manner the OP attempted is asinine. NONE of them are perfect, union or not. And what works for you won't necessarily work for me..

Actually someone gave you some bad info 25% gets you nothing.
They are not paying the full amount so it gets you 0 in monetary value go to a meeting and ask.
I worked for the big R and New Penn when the 25% deal took effect I took a $6 paycut and went to UPSF.
    Best move I ever made.
And I have to agree with the previous post more dues paying members I.E. Rats

That's not all, they're getting a huge cut to healthcare benefits even for those already retired. Retired drivers also getting a big cut to their pensions.
The union big shots will still drain the pension funds even more to donate to Hillary Clinton and other Democrats running for office.
