How to register truck

Contrary to popular belief, LEO's aren't entirely stupid. The closer you are to the track, the more likely they are to know where you're going...especially the ones AT the event working security. Tags are a pretty obvious thing on a vehicle, and eventually you will get caught. The fine will more than make up for whatever you saved by improperly registering your vehicle.

 

Innocent until proven guilty.

Since there is no way they could prove it , its a charge that wouldn't stick. Sure a lot of officers like to bully their way around, but at the end of the day he would walk free.

 

If you're competing, it is easy enough to prove. There's probably a signed waiver at the track with your name on it that they can subpoena. There's bank records showing a fee paid to participate, which they can also get. There may even be an event program with your name appearing in the list of competitors, which would've been publicly available...not to mention the race results are probably posted on the track's website or the website of the sanctioning body. Witnesses who saw you at the track and in the race will be easy enough to find, too...some of them were probably off duty LEO's working security who may be in the courtroom on other business anyway, who probably noticed the improper registration on the truck/trailer but didn't push the issue because that wasn't why they were there...but since you got caught on the road and decided to fight it, they are a very credible witness that you were indeed a participant in the event. The fact that you lied to the officer on the side of the road could even lead to impeding an investigation/false statement charges. Sure, you might get away with it a time or two...but eventually you will get caught and it will be expensive.

Farm tags are generally only good for a short distance from the farm, and depending upon the states, may not be valid across state lines. Get caught hauling commercial with farm tags and it won't be pretty either.

Just get the weighted truck tags and be done with it. An improperly registered vehicle is one of the easiest things to prove, so don't bet on being able to beat the ticket when you get it.

 

We all know the chances of leo actually showing up in court are next to nothing. Talk on the internet is cheap. Nobody is going to subpoena #### over that ticket. Lets be real.

 

Yup, 'cuz it's always better to give people horrible advise and tell them to bury their head in the sand and nothing bad will ever happen to them.

Register the truck properly and you won't have to look over your shoulder wondering when (not if) you're going to get pulled over.

Has nothing to do with being pro- or anti- government...just knowing how and when to pick my battles. Best way to avoid trouble is to not go out looking for it.
