Butler Transport (the good and the bad)

That doesn't sound like much. Are you an experienced driver? What do they pay per mile? Do they have elogs. How do they handle fueling?

 

I've got 17 yrs experience before i started with Butler....been with em almost a year. They run primarily Internationals and are in the process of upgrading the fleet to T680s. Yeah, they run elogs. Fuel is with a card issued to you. I run about 3200 to 3600 miles a week solo. They start out at 36 cents a mile but my bonus checks average around 350-400 each month. Hometime depends on how long you stay out. To me, i'm not a number to my dispatcher.......i get treated like family here and that makes a big difference!

 

My husband has been running for butler since oct. 2014. I started with them a couple of months ago (we run as a team) pay is decent enough, and they do try and keep up decent maintenance on the trucks. If you decide to give them a try don't let them give you Bob as a dispatcher. He's clueless, and you'll be sitting for a day between loads.

They do train now. As an experienced driver, I never wanted to work for a training company but Butler seems to have a tight leash on theirs. The fleet manager told me that they only allow trainees to have one minor moving violation and must otherwise be squeaky clean. Safety says they don't want training new drivers to affect their csa score so they only allow a few at a time. From what I've seen of these newbies, it seems to be the truth. I see training like this, someone has to give these people a chance, because drivers like myself will eventually retire and freight is going to have to still be hauled. As long as Butler keeps training the way they are now and don't ask ME to be a trainer- I won't have a problem working for them as a training company

I've been reading thru some of the question I've seen in the report here, I have been employed with Butler Transport for approximately 1.5 years now as a OTR driver and now a driver trainer. The first question being a trainer that I will tackle is how long does it take to get the 160 hrs of training required:
First it is a requirement of Butler Transport that you have a minimum of 2 yrs verified experience if you don't Butler Transport will place you in our training program where you go out with a driver's trainer for 160 driving hours. As for how long it takes to complete is completely up to the trainee's driving ability, the period is exactly what I stated above 160 driving hours, the more you drive the shorter the time will be, the less you drive the longer it will take, so again it's totally depends on you, on average is approximately 3-4 weeks.

I have been very satisfied with my employment here at Butler Transport, although it's more your feelings that determine if your going to like it or not, I have been treated like family with this company, and can say nothing really bad about them, it does not matter what company you drive for pretty much it's all in your determination as with every company that is out there there will be time you will like it and there will be time you will have it, it's a job.

Butler Transport has increased their pay schedule as well starting students out at .36 a mile after training, with pay raised every 60,000 dispatched miles. As for experienced driver your starting pay goes by the amount of verifies experience you have.

Does Butler pay weekly or bi-weekly? Do they have direct deposit? Is their per diem mandatory or voluntary?

How many gears are on their manual transmissions, 9 speeds, 10 speeds, or 13 speeds?
