What he said!!
Borrow a friend's mic and try it.
Easy fix if that's what it is.ClutchCargo777 Thanks this. -
just bought brand new microphone right now and the needle will not move on radio.

Well, I'm not a radio technician or anything but if it was mine I would open it up and blpw any dust out with sone canned air and then check they might connection to the board and the antenna connector to the board that shows wires are in place and then just generally check the board to see if there any broken solder joints or any wires that may have. come loose, etc., before I did anything else.
While you have it open you can smell and see if you smell anything that smells like something might have gotten too hot or if you notice anything that's charred or looks like it might have burned.ClutchCargo777 Thanks this. -
my radio is a uniden pc78xl, a driver at the truck stop said I need to tune it? how do I do that? I think ill just grab a new cb and a francis antennae cause those are the best pre turned IMHO, but what ft of cable do I need to run from the antennae to the mirror but its a pain in the ### because My rig is a volvo 780 and I would have to get the bracket mount etc *sigh* I hate not having a cb in my truck tho
-
I didn't need a bracket to mount my radio in my Volvo 780.
If you're going to run coax get the good stuff get the clear shield, i know that Wilson sells it and it comes in the 18 foot length.
Also I have my Sirio Performer 5000 mounted on a bird perch on the top of the mirror and I had to remove the stock antennas in order to get the SWR right.
Thwy were interfering somehow.Last edited: Oct 6, 2015

I am in no way know for sure, but my understanding is you would like to tune your set up regardless of antenna, radio, coax, mic, amplifier... Tuning means your antenna(s) need to be "paired" with all other mentioned parts. It does not cost too much, may be around $20 or so or you can do it yourself by simply cutting or extending your antenna(learn more about it before starting). At the end of the day you would have better receiving and transmitting with the same parts.
Do not rush to spend money on repair or purchase of new unit, research first, either way cost you money and you do not want to throw good radio, which may be having some kind of problem. But if you really think your radio is broken, just buy a new one, "professional" service of CB shops is not cheap and quality is not guaranteed even with "reputable" places(my personal experience). -
Simple question:
Is this your first CB?
