In my recent research I've reviewed some apps online. Some ask have you EVER been arrested for DUI. It seems some of you are missing a complete understanding of my question. I'll try to explain.
1) How far do trucking companies go back on a Criminal Background check?
2) I have very old DUIs and don't see the need to bring them up if they won't be seen by a background check.
3) Only 1 (one) still shows up on my DMV printout and it is 13 yrs old.
Please continue responding....this is good feedback and I really do appreciate your attempts to help. -
Nothing really serious and those were perhaps 30 yrs ago. No felonies or drug charges. Only one of the DUIs show on my DMV printout (from 1995). My concern is that the others will show up on my CRIMINAL record if they go back more than 10 years. If I'm honest on my app and tell them I've been busted for DUI 6 times they will probably laugh in my face and suggest I become a stand-up comic! If I ONLY divulge what may come out in the last 10 yrs....I'd be good to go! -
What part of "do not lie" on an app is so hard to understand? If it asks "have you ever" you list ALL. If it states for the past 10 years, then you list just those that have happened in the past 10 years. It isn't rocket science. You follow the instructions on the application.

1. it varies company to company usually about 10 years.
2. then don't but be prepared for the worst to happen if it comes up.
3. then list it but also list it was thirteen years ago. if it shows up and you say no then that will mess you up on driving.
4. do you still drink ?
5. my company is very understanding and works with drivers who are trying to better themselves.
6. do you have recent experience ?
7. i will help with what i can but only you can get that job of driving
8. only you can decide on what is right and what you can honestly live with saying. whatever you put down make sure in your heart that is the best thing to do and have no regrets in it.
9. tomorrow is made of decisions we make today. -
Yes I have my CDL w/tanks & doubles endorsements. I do have some experience in the last 5 years but not recent. I'd be willing to attend a refresher course if the company would consider me.
If you really know of a company that is less strict on their hiring requirements I'd like to know who they are. I understand that the pay and conditions will probably suck...but that's a price I'm willing to pay for a while.
Thanks Jack!! -
see that is the thing. alot of them just say in the past so many years have you...... and if it says in the past ten then he can honestly answer no. it was thirteen years ago since the last incident. everybody deserves a second chance and in this case maybe a seventh chance but then when does it stop. it's up to him to realize his mistakes and move on . if he looks at himself as a crimanal thenso will everybody else. he was young , dumb and full of you know what and made mistakes. he paid his dues and should be given a chance if he tries to better himself.baseballswthrt Thanks this.

Agreed. If it's "last 10 years" there's nothing to worry about. If it comes up on a check, and it shows it was 13 years ago, all he has to say is he was following the instructions on the application.
However, if the application asks "have you ever", leaving any of that information out would catch up and at that point, he most likely won't get hired anywhere because he lied on the application. -
are you dead set on otr ? if you are then a refresher course on your own might be the answer. it would show inititive and show companies you are serious. you might get full on humble pie the first year but just chalk it up as first year experiences. how much experience in the past five years do you have ?
-
i totally agree. that is why he needs to read and pay close attention to detail on the application.
