Prime, Inc Lightweight International Prostar & Freightliner Cascadia Video Tours

I did a video the other day since I know a lot of folks are really interested in what, exactly, Prime's lightweight trucks are like. I've had both this 2016 International (had it about a month and a half) and had a LW Freightliner which was used when I got it. All issues I mention in the video were addressed & fixed in a timely fashion before I left the yard. Feel free to ask any questions you may have...

 

Both are about as deep as a folded shirt/pants. I never stored clothes in the Freightliner cabinets - I did remove the seat and had some Walmart plastic cabinets in its place.

 

I'd highly recommend trying to get a look inside each personally. I know that, if you're going company, it doesn't really matter, as you'll just be assigned a truck, but since I knew I was going to a dedicated account that required a LW, I made sure to look inside both. I did that in the detail shop - just ask the guys there, especially since many of the trucks in there don't "belong" to anyone (they're getting cleaned for either another new driver or for sale), they're glad to let you poke around. That's what I did, and how I decided I wanted an International.

 

I call BS on him being able to "pick a truck," but he may have asked for dispensation for a condo. You are allowed to request a full size if 1) you're tall or large; 2) will have a spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend/child/pets on the truck with you; 3) plan to be a trainer, or 4) are claustrophobic. There may be other ways to get a condo, but I'm not aware. Your FM will also likely try to talk you out of it with the 5 cpm bonus the big incentive.

edit - BTW, I really like the International too.

 

To be clear, I'd definitely want a full size if I was OTR (and with Prime's current options, would lease a Freightliner Midroof). First off, I'm 6'7". Second, just have more storage space plus the cabinet for a real fridge (which I'd have) if I wasn't home as much. All this said, if I was told that I had to have this Int'l as an OTR truck, I could make it work - and guys make both the Int'l and Freightshaker LW's work as OTR trucks. Just know that they have their limitations, plan for them and you'll be fine.
