I was in the same boat at one time.Mostly they go back 10 years but if it says" have you ever" it will be looked for and if it is found and you did not answer honest they will never expect you to do them honest .So its a chance you have to take.I did and i have been riding 16 years. After you get experience and change jobs they will be more interested in your experience than what happened to you at a young age.Most companies ask for insurance purposes and as long as it has been for you it wont effect there ins. then they will look for your work history and honesty.
I just gotta know...

I'm not dead set on OTR but it appears this is my best chance because of the high turnover in that facet of trucking.
In the past five 1/2 years I have driven for the same company. One year in a rig driving at night. The last four were driving a Bobtail for them. Can you refer me to a company who's requirements are less strict? -

If I were in this situation I would try to set up a face to face interview with the person doing the hiring. You need to convince whatever company you want to work for that you are rehabilitated. As many people have said you cannot convince someone that you have changed by telling lies. I would show up with application in hand dressed professionally. Honestly before I would hire someone with 6 DUI's I would want to feel confident that they no longer drink period. That can only be done in person.

Big truck truckin' insurance companies would hire
a murderer before they would a driver with DUI's.
In the Big truck truckin' industry, DUI's are VERY serious --
and rate right up there with drug use/abuse.

HOWever ---- that question is usually followed by, "If YeS, Please explain."
Here's your chance -------

Anxious to explain during interview.
Because you ARE, ......... right?
That just MIGHT make the personnel manager curious enough to interview you, and,
THAT'S what you WANT, ......... right?
Put yourself in their shoes.
If you were them, what would YOU be thinkin' from just readin' an application?
No doubt your clean record in the past 13 years is to your credit. But that's not while driving OTR.
Over the road driving, ESPECIALLY at first, is stressful as you learn to adapt to a new LIFESTYLE.
If YOU were the interviewer, wouldn't YOU be concerned that the stresses of adapting MIGHT drive one to drink?
You'd have NO one looking over your shoulder, and even truck stops are known to sell adult beverages. One slip of better judgment COULD cause a million dollar+ judgment against the truckin' company.
Would YOU be willing to put your cushy desk job on the line for ANYone with a history of DUI's on their record --- no matter HOW long ago they occurred?
I sure wouldn't.
UNLESS I could have you randomly tested about once a week for the first six-months --- and more often than the other drivers after that.
At YOUR expense.
Would you be willing to do that for an OTR gig?

However, I am NOT sorry!
A person who drives after drinking alcohol on consistent enough basis to get CAUGHT 6 times in 30 years has established a pattern of disregard for human life........ as well as the obvious inability to stay sober.
This dude has been drinking and driving for 30 years and you guys actually think some HR person is going to believe he is going to stop......... just because he wants to drive a truck?
This guy got CAUGHT 6 times! How many times has he actually driven after drinking!?!
Then....... the dude is asking if he should really tell the truth?......... or should he lie?......... what is wrong with this picture??
This person should not have a license for the rest of their life....... let alone drive a BIG TRUCK.
Is this the kind of person you guys want as a colleague, peer and co-worker??

Put yourself in an owner's shoes.
The cost of a rig, the maintenance, insurance and training a student.
Driving a rig is a huge responsibility as you know and as we all know.
You are literally driving an 80K weapon of mass destruction in various conditions such as congested highways, congested loading docks, snow, rain, ice, steep down grades, and in tunnels.
Not to be condescending, but you do get the picture.
I understand people change and you just might be a very stand-up person.
But step back and put the shoes on of an owner and see you with his/her eyes. -
