When mine started to act up it was every couple weeks for a few months, of course couldn't identify the problem. eventually it got to several times a week, then all of a sudden a couple times a day, then a couple times per hours.

Someone else also mentioned fuse or connection to battery. I've repeatedly had the ECM power connectors at the battery go bad from corrosion or flexing. Check the wires at the battery, and follow them also to the fuses. I had a fuse somehow get a little loose in the fuse holder and break the connection for a moment when I'd hit hard bumps. It progressively got worse and is easy to fix, once you find the problem that is. The ECM is very sensitive to power interruptions!

Wow, Thanks. We're going to get into the battery box this Saturday. Why is it that I always seem to forget how important the batteries are on these trucks? Time after time for all of these years, the battery box should be where I start!

Don't discount the engine harness as well. I had an N14 recently with a traveling miss / rough idle and then as soon as it started it would go away. Found the harness bad near EPS....figured it lays right below accessory drive and has had oil on it most of it's life, not to mention being heat soaked living next to the block / oil pump. While you're checking battery connections verify grounds from engine to frame and make sure they're not broken as well.

OK, Thanks for all of the input. We were able to get a new EPS installed last night. This did not help. We were able to remove the fairings and checked the ECM fuse connection. The connection was fine, the fuse looked great, and there was no corrosion detected. We ran two quarts of ATF in the tanks. So far, still the same problem. There are still a few suggestions here that we need to get to and we will do so. The mechanic that replaced the EPS last night said he thought it could be a fuel pump problem. We have not been able to test the fuel pump yet. We hope to be able to do that in the next day or two. Any thoughts on this being a possibility? Thanks everyone for chiming in and your help. WE WILL figure this out!

Sounds like a injector failing under load. Best way to find out is have some one with insite ride along to figure out which one.
If you can find a safe place to pull off,and it's still skipping at idle, you can unplug each injector one at a time.
Also when the fuel shut off solenoid starts to go bad,it will restrict the fuel. You can take it off and clean up and lube the stopper with a thin coat of Vaseline. See if that helps.

The injectors are fine...we have been through the ringer there. We have no standing computer codes and the injector harness has also checked out fine. I will look into the fuel shut off solenoid. Thanks for the tip there.

We did clean the screen and there was a tiny bit of debris there. Once reinstalled it did not help. We are hoping to get the pump itself checked today. Thanks.

more suggestions: make sure the fuel tank vent it's clean, one thing that comes to mind, N14 injectors are hydraulic right?
don't do any extended period oil change with hyd injectors and try not to use ATF too often, new ATF is not the same as back in the '70s and '80s.
What I use on mine is 2 stroke motor oil and I try to use it on every fill up for reason stated before, ULS fuel is too dry and it's costing way too many injectors replacement.

good luck and please post when you fix the problem.

Wow, never heard of using 2 stroke motor oil before. I appreciate the suggestions.
