I would like to see a cite for that. The Canadian and U.S. securement rules are virtually identical with very few exceptions.

Division 7 - Vehicles as Cargo
89 Heavy vehicles
(1) Heavy vehicles shall be transported in accordance with this section.
(2) Accessory equipment on a heavy vehicle, including a hydraulic shovel, shall be completely lowered and secured to the vehicle unless:
(a) the accessory equipment can only move vertically;(3) Articulated vehicles shall be restrained in a manner that prevents articulation while the vehicle is on a highway.
(b) accessory equipment that can pivot, tilt or move sideways is blocked or immobilized by the transporting vehicle’s structure or by a blocking or securement mechanism built into the transported vehicle.
(4) Despite section 22, a heavy vehicle with crawler tracks or wheels shall be restrained against moving sideways, forward, rearward and vertically by at least 4 tiedowns,
(a) each with a working load limit of at least 2 268 kilograms, and
(b) each attached, as close as practical, at the front and rear of the vehicle or to mounting points on the vehicle that are specifically designed for that purpose.

(i) a vehicle that weighs more than 4 500 kilograms, orpg. 10-8
(ii) equipment or machinery that operates on wheels or tracks and weighs more than 4 500 kilograms;

Correct me if I am wrong... But Direct is from machine to one side of trailer.. Indirect is chain hooked to put sides of trailer going through the machines tie-down points..

The word attached. Also in my securement handbook from 2008 it says direct tiedowns only. My dad has it now, I will try to get a picture of the page that says it. It does make sense, I wouldn't consider using indirect tiedowns on a 10k wheeled/tracked equipment even if it was legal.rank Thanks this.
