i just finished CR england refresher and the truth is i did the same stuff as all the people without a CDL their training is fast and lame they will teach you what you need to pass the test. if you dont pick up the class room stuff fast enough you go home, if you dont pick up the backing fast enough you go home, if you dont pick up the driving fast enough you go home. they dont care they process 60 people a week through the SLC school if you cant keep up you go home. stay away

A few years ago after not driving for 9 months I decided to go back OTR the first company I called was CRE they told me I had to take a refresher course they would "give" (loan) me the money. I called swift and they said orientation was the following week. I did not need to take a refresher but needed to take their otr training back then it was 8 weeks. My guess at that time was CRE just wanted my money.born2truck said: ↑i just finished CR england refresher and the truth is i did the same stuff as all the people without a CDL their training is fast and lame they will teach you what you need to pass the test. if you dont pick up the class room stuff fast enough you go home, if you dont pick up the backing fast enough you go home, if you dont pick up the driving fast enough you go home. they dont care they process 60 people a week through the SLC school if you cant keep up you go home. stay awayClick to expand...

I am in the same boat I have decided after closing my business that this is the best option for me to be a truck driver. I live in NH and it seems to be very limited here as far as Co's that are hiring and training. I am working with one of the labor dept's to help me get a grant for training in a new career but it is slow coming. I am looking at Decker, Werner,, Schnieder, and Stevens, Decker being my first choice but after talking to Driver solutions for Decker ( there training school ) they are not taking new applicants without a Cdl in this area. Schnieder told me they are not hiring in the NH area right now. The only one that has called me back has been Werner they have a good sounding web site but after reading comments here I am very leary.
This post has really helped out in some ways but I am interested in knowing more about Werner. I have gone to some of the rest stops here and have not seen any Werner trucks here at all. For you drivers out there is it dumb to come up to you and ask your opinion on another trucking Co.
I need a CDL and I can't afford to get it at a private school. Closing my business has put me and my family in a financial crisis as it is.
Any and all help would be appreciated... Even comments!!!! Does anyone know of any other Co's in this area. Or even better is anyone from this area that have any ideas on Co's here in New England!!!
Thanks,
Jay -
After 5 months of looking, reading this site and many others, talking with truckers, taking 10 OTR trips with 2 different guys, I closed my business, sold everything I own, and accepted an offer from WSE. I start training on July 7 in ID. I'm moving into a closet with wheels!!!!

Schneider closed their school in 2008 or 09 and have not re-opened them. They are partnering with community colleges and other schools now for the basic CDL training.
Look very carefully at community college programs. they have the best reputation by a long shot.
Good luck.
