Need some help please. I drive a 2015 Cascadia. I have a Uniden Bearcat 880 CB that I recently had peaked and tuned and supposedly boosted. I'm beginning to think I got ripped on that deal, but it's done and nothing I can do about it now. Anyway, my reception sucks (and I'm not too sure I'm getting out too good either). Yesterday I was beside a dump truck and could see the driver in the mirror on the radio and all I could hear was broken and staticky.
Ok, so I know the antenna system in these trucks are pitiful, especially considering there is no external antennas on it. So I'm looking at getting the bird perch bracket, an 18 foot cable and an antenna. To be more specific, I was looking at the Wilson cable and possibly the Wilson 2000 antenna. I'm not expecting a miracle fix to my problem, but would these help? I don't want to throw money away, but I want to be able to use my radio. Sometimes it works fine, others not so much. I'm getting tired of hearing half a conversation between two trucks right beside me.

Try a new unmodified radio and report back
Blaskowitz Thanks this. -
possibly the freight shaker

The problems are consistent with before the work on the radio. Meaning, I was having similar problems before I had the radio messed with. In fact, this is actually the second radio and I've had the same problems with the old radio as well as different trucks. I should mention I am a company driver so modifying the truck in any way is out of the question.

I drive a freight shaker, look on cb help post I started on here and there is a link on how to fix the problem without messing w/ the truck, I am a company driver and now get out 20-25 miles with a uniden led, predator 10k, my own 18' coax and power wires. Look for that thread and it will lay it all out how.
Blaskowitz and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
oops i have a cobra led

So, going back to my original question, which is buried in my original post. Lol. Is the Wilson 2000 antenna and the Wilson 18 foot cable a good option to my problem? And from what I was just reading, do I really need an 18 foot cable? Is there anything shorter that is available? I had planned to purchase these items and install them, but before I connect to the radio I would go to a radio shop and get it set up right.

in a freight shaker a wilson is worthless, a 7' skip shooter is what most use, pick one up at a cb shop you can't find them in truck stops. I normally run a predator 10k and am testing out a 7' fire stick. ALSO if you find the thread and link in it all you questions will be answered as well as instructions.

I prefer the Sirio Performer 5000 over the Wilson 2000.
I replaced my Wilson 2000 with the Sirio and I'm really glad I did!
I'm not a fan of those big obnoxious (IMHO) antennas with the huge external coils, etc. They may work great, but you'll never see one on my truck.
The Sirio works great and is understated in its looks.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
18 feet of cable is unnecessary. Technically you could use any length of cable but due to reactance anything other than a half wavelength would act as an impedance transformer and if your feed point impedance is anything other than 50 ohms, any length other than a half wavelength would not be able to mirror the feed point impedance. Technically any length of cable would work to a point.
darthanubis Thanks this.
