NEED HELP, STARTING NEW JOB

    Hello,
    I'm going to be starting a job with Schneider national in Chicago soon. Here is what I think I know just from what they have told me. It's a local position so I expect to be home daily because they told me it was. It's 1800 to 2300 miles a week and it's 37 cents a mile. I work Thursday thru Sunday and I'm off Friday and Saturday. Is there any reason at all that I should NOT believe this because this is what I was told. Please advise

    just go with it. try it for about a solid 3 to 6 months. if it does not work out, leave.

    Yeah, thats really all I can do I guess. Won't know until I try. Just nervous as hell. I already quit one trucking job that I was not happy with to try this place out. I worked there for 6 months, hated it, then left. Just hoping this wont be a repeat of that. Thanks

    Intermodal? SNI has plenty of home daily accounts. No reason not to believe you won't get home ..but! ; this is trucking and things happen. I wouldn't put too much stock into Fri/Sat off. Not at first anyway.

    Ganthony has the right of it. Give it an honest try and see if it works for you.

    A local job paid by the mile and 37 cents at that? I'd run away fast! There are companies that pay $20+ an hour with overtime after 45 hours.

    Well they told me that was the schedule and yes it is intermodal as well. I hope they were honest about the days off but if not I suppose I'll have to cope. They also told me I would be on first shift with either a 3 or 4 am start time. I hope I can believe that because I dont want to work nights or evenings

    I dont have much experience is the problem. I applied for an hourly rate job and they wouldnt take me cuz I was under a year. This is the one gig I got with the experience that I have so that too is an issue I'm having

    3 or 4 AM start time is almost as bad as night shift. Depending on far away you live from the terminal you'll be waking up as early as 1 AM everyday. I'd rather do OTR than do that but if you have to do this as a stepping stone to get your year experience I understand. Best of luck.

    I'm not too bad. Its in Chicago and I'm in a suburb of the city. It may suck I guess but what can I do. I'm a new driver and my options are a tad limited. I just gotta stick it out I suppose

    Stick it out until you get that 1 year. There's not too many jobs that allow a person with less than a year experience to be home every night. After you get that year, I would look somewhere else. Getting paid cents per mile for a local gig, especially in a major city like Chicago, means you'll most likely get stuck in traffic, and who wants to get paid .37 cents for an hours worth of work.
